Recently, there has been a wave of "young masters of Wanliu Academy" on the Internet, and Lao Pan thinks that instead of envying these young masters and young ladies who have a good birth by luck, it is better to study the history of the founding generation, after all, rich people are not stupid and will not throw money to us.

Many people may feel strange when it comes to Shen Nanpeng, but when it comes to Sequoia Capital, I believe most people know that it claims to have bought half of the Internet, Alibaba, JD.com, Toutiao, Didi Chuxing, AutoNavi Software, Meituan, Weibo, Ele.me, 360, NIO, DJI, etc. all have Sequoia Capital's figure, and the Internet industry partners can study your company's investors, maybe there is it.

Nanpeng Shen is the founding and managing partner of Sequoia China, and has been named "World's Best Venture Capitalist" by Forbes magazine twice in a row, and by the way, he is also the founder of Ctrip and Homeinns. It is said that the old Tan played by Jin Dong in the TV series "Ode to Joy", who is both emotionally and intelligent, talented and golden, handsome and considerate, is based on Shen Nanpeng, and Lao Pan even thinks that he himself is more elegant than Jin Dong, what do you think?

With the top student, the male protagonist of the campus novel has had a face since then

In 1967, Shen Nanpeng was born in Haining, Zhejiang. Shen Nanpeng has belonged to other people's children since he was a child, with excellent grades and the president of the student union. At the age of 7, he began studying at his aunt's house in Shanghai, and other children played wildly in their spare time, but he liked to sit in the classroom and study complex math problems.

In 1982, 15-year-old Shen Nanpeng won the national Olympic competition.

He scored 596 points out of 600 in the high school exam, and it is said that he also self-examined these four points.

In 1985, Shen Nanpeng became one of the first batch of students exempted from examination at Shanghai Jiaotong University.

In 1989, 22-year-old Shen Nanpeng graduated from Jiaotong University and went to Columbia University for further study, but found that mathematics did not seem to suit him, "Chinese think of proficiency as a genius a lot of times," he said while chatting with a good friend.

So he decided to drop out of school and was admitted to Yale University, and sure enough, the big guy exam was as easy as me eating steamed buns.

Although he did not become a mathematician, mathematical thinking still had a very profound impact on Shen Nanpeng's career in the following decades.

When he was young, Shen Nanpeng was a little handsome

The big guy looking for a job will also be rejected ten times?

In 1992, Shen Nanpeng graduated from Yale and sought a career on Wall Street. Applying for more than a dozen companies ended in failure, after all, here are the top talents in various countries, and the failure of the big guy is not an order of magnitude as our application for security rejection. At this time, Shen Nanpeng was interviewed by Citibank.

One of the interviewers is a Ph.D. in mathematics at Stanford University, and he has two intelligence questions (these two questions are quite interesting, interested friends can search for them). A total of three people participated in the interview that day, the first was an American, the second was Japanese, and the third was Chinese Shen Nanpeng. In the end, Shen Nanpeng won the favor of the interviewer with his excellent problem-solving ideas, and finally entered Citibank.

Later, he worked for Lehman Brothers, GCA Bank, and Deutsche Bank.

It is worth mentioning that at the age of 29, he became the head of Deutsche Bank's China department and became the youngest director at the age of 32.

He led the successful issuance of DM 500 million bonds for China in Europe, which became his most valuable achievement.

Ctrip and Homeinns took only four years from their inception to listing

In 1999, Shen Nanpeng left the investment banking industry to start his own business. In the same year, Shen Nanpeng, Liang Jianzhang, Ji Qi and Fan Min co-founded Ctrip.com, and Shen Nanpeng served as chairman, president and chief financial officer.

On December 9, 2003, Ctrip led Ctrip.com to be listed on NASDAQ.

In 2002, Shen Nanpeng founded the Homeinns hotel chain and served as the founder and co-chairman.

On October 26, 2006, Homeinns Hotel was listed on NASDAQ.

It took only 4 years for Ctrip to go public, while Homeinns was even shorter, taking less than 3 years. The company went public in 4 years, and I feel ashamed to think that Lao Pan has worked for nearly eight years and has achieved nothing.

In fact, at that time, many people were not optimistic about Shen Nanpeng's second home-based entrepreneurship, and compared with the rapid development of Ctrip's Internet model, offline hotels were undoubtedly a time-consuming and laborious drudgery.

After ringing the bell for the second time on NASDAQ after three years, Shen Nanpeng can finally confidently say that Homeinns is a natural extension of Ctrip. "At that time, we conducted rigorous market research and already had a clear understanding of the hotel model, market demand, price point, etc.", if it were not for Ctrip, we would not have learned about the rise of the business travel market, which is a difficult opportunity.

From investment banking to entrepreneurship, Shen Nanpeng believes in numbers, and only numbers can truly feedback the real needs of users.
