Derived from tea More than tea

Where the eye can see where the heart is going starts with a cup of tea

Walking through the new road full of shops and bustling with shops, walking to the fifth street of the first month of October, where shops are sporadic and crowded with traffic, you will look up and see an old-style sign with "Da Longfeng Tea House" written in traditional characters. With a history of nearly 60 years, Da Long Fung Tea House is one of the oldest surviving old-style tea houses in Macau.

When it comes to Macao's tea culture, I have to say that it is the fifth street of October. It's not uncommon to name streets after dates. On the fifth day of October, what appears to be the Chinese lunar calendar is actually linked to an international event. At the end of the 19th century, Portugal's internal contradictions became increasingly acute. The liberal faction, composed of the emerging bourgeoisie, progressive intellectuals, and some military personnel, opposed the absolute monarchy.

On October 4, 1910, Republicans, with the support of a part of the army and navy, revolted in Lisbon. On 5 October, Portuguese government forces surrendered and the king fled to England. The Portuguese Republic was proclaimed. Macau is under Portuguese jurisdiction and is therefore also affected. The Portuguese and Macao governments at that time, in order to commemorate the establishment of the Portuguese Republic, named this street the fifth street of October.

The street, whose real name is Si Muang Street, is named after the Si Muang pier (demolished) not far away. A hundred years ago, this was the inner harbor of the waterway. Most of the goods entering and leaving Macao are distributed here. The prosperous freight industry has driven the economic development of this area. From the wee hours of the morning to the evening and late at night, the streets are always crowded. The Portuguese and Macao governments also took a fancy to the prosperity here, so they gave this old street such an important name as "the fifth day of October".

The crowd gathered due to the transportation in the inner harbor showed considerable spending power. Since the middle of the 19th century, large-scale tea houses have appeared on the fifth street of October. As of the 30s of the last century, there are six large tea houses on this street: Delai, Dexin, Qiaozhu, Jixiang, Xingxing and Qingnan. With the filling of the Inner Harbor water system, the prosperity of Fifth Street in early October is no longer there. The originally famous six major tea houses have closed down or transformed.

Among them, Delai Tea House, opened in the 1930s, is also among the six major tea houses. In the 1960s, the tea house changed owners. Although the owner has changed, the original site has not been moved. It was renamed as Da Longfeng Tea House and has been in business since then. Therefore, Da Long Feng is now the elder of Macao's tea house industry. If you add the history of the tea house, it has been in business for nearly 90 years.

The Great Dragon and Phoenix Tea House is easy to find and is located right next to the Kang Gong Temple. At the entrance of 5th Street in early October, follow the road slowly. As soon as he looked up, the old "Great Dragon and Phoenix Tea House" sign was exposed. Red characters on a green background, surrounded by a dragon and a phoenix pattern, everything reveals the atmosphere of the old Hong Kong film. This trick must be decades old. The boss may be afraid of being too old, and added an LED signboard underneath. It says "Great Dragon and Phoenix" in red and "Tea House" in yellow.

The average tourist does not necessarily choose the Great Dragon and Phoenix. Because it looks really not advanced enough, it can even be said to be a little corny. Unlike Longhua Tea House, Da Longfeng does not have booths, but is always a large and small dining table. Standing outside the store, the decoration is almost the same as that of an ordinary restaurant. But compared to ordinary restaurants, Da Longfeng has been in business for much longer. In general, it is operated from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. the next day. This is the legacy of the old tea house.

Nowadays, in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, under normal circumstances, tea houses are generally "drinking morning tea". However, in the past, in Macau, the tea market had three times: morning tea, afternoon tea and night tea. Because the information is not developed enough, the tea house is the distribution center of freight information in the inner harbor. The arrival or delivery time of the ship is uncertain, but no matter whether it is morning or evening, everyone must go to the tea house to party. According to the memories of old employees in Macao tea houses, the two major tea houses of "Guan Man" and "Delai" in the fifties and sixties of the last century opened their doors at 3:45 am every day to welcome customers. Some large tea houses are open from morning to night. Nowadays, there are many places in Macao where you can eat "morning tea", and if you want to eat "night tea", you have to come to the Dragon and Phoenix Tea House.

The Great Dragon and Phoenix Tea House still retains the tradition of performing in the old opera class, although there is no gorgeous costume, but the low back is gentle and the sound of silk and bamboo is endless. The old tea customers who come here every day to sigh tea are wearing a cup of two pieces at this time, and they tap their fingers on the table with a song, and the nostalgic atmosphere is really too strong to dissolve. The scene at that time will be reminiscent of Chongqing's traffic teahouse, and there is an indescribable human touch inside.

The enjoyment in the tea house is a comprehensive experience of drinking and eating. The protagonists of the drink are Pu'er, Narcissus, Incense Tablets, and Shoumei. The protagonist of the food is mainly Cantonese dim sum. The menu of the big dragon and phoenix is subdivided into five levels: small point, midpoint, large point, characteristics, and vertex. The logic of the division is the level of the price, not the size of the component. Before tasting dim sum, open a pot of Pu'er or Shoumei, moisten your throat, and then listen to the play in the smoke of tea and wait for the delicious arrival.

Different from the self-pickup of Longhua Tea House, Da Longfeng will have service staff to help order food. In order to ensure the taste, it is generally made to order. The waiting time for each cage is usually about half an hour. Isn't it too slow? When you're in a hurry, look around. The old neighbors all calmly dealt with it, leisurely drinking tea and listening to Cantonese opera. When I heard Xing's head, I also had to pat the teapot with my hand and beat it unhurriedly. At this time, you find that the time in the old tea house seems to be frozen.
