Mei Pai's classic play "Farewell My Concubine" is one of the most influential plays in Mei Lanfang's artistic career, and it is also the most brilliant pearl born during the heyday of Peking Opera art in the 20th century. Hosted by Mei Lanfang Memorial Museum and co-organized by Shanghai Municipal Museum of History, the "Peking Opera "Farewell My Concubine" Centennial Photography Exhibition aims to show the appearance and creative process of the stage of "Farewell My Concubine" in different periods to the public based on the historical photos in the collection of Mei Lanfang Memorial Museum, combined with the scientific research achievements in recent years, through the exhibition of precious photos and cultural relics related to "Farewell My Concubine", and to show the performance characteristics of Mei Pai and explain the creative spirit of Mei Lanfang's rehearsal of new plays.

As the first exhibition of the national tour, Liu Zhen, director of Mei Lanfang Memorial Museum, emphasized that this exhibition is based on the cultural relics and documents in the museum's collection, focusing on the display and presentation of the unique perspective of image and photographic historical documents. The two swords that attracted the audience the most attractive in the exhibition hall were the return gift given by Mei Lanfang to Wang Xichun, which was later donated to Mei Lanfang Memorial Hall by Wang Xichun's sister Wang Xiping.

The story behind the two costumes in the center of the exhibition hall leads to Mei Lanfang's persistent pursuit of art. Both costumes were designed by the famous costume designer Xie Xingsheng, the fish scale armor and cloak were copied according to the same costume used by Mei Lanfang in the collection of Mei Lanfang Memorial Museum, and the Bawang Leaning was copied according to the manuscript of the Shanghai History Museum.

Xie Xingsheng once recalled: "Every time Mr. Mei came to Shanghai, he always had to buy and customize a batch of costumes. For example, he changed the fish scale armor many times, and each time he asked for innovation. ”

The story of Mei Lanfang and Shanghai actually begins in 1913. That year, Mei Lanfang, who was under 20 years old, came to Shanghai to perform for the first time, and achieved great success in the first performance of "Mukezhai" in the big axis, and thus moved from "fame" to "being alone". As an important witness of this incident, Mei Lanfang's contract with the theater at that time and the premiere of "Mukezhai" were presented in the exhibition.

In addition, in the process of Mei Lanfang starring in more than 1,000 performances of "Farewell My Concubine", she has cooperated with seven overlords including Yang Xiaolou, Shen Huaxuan, Zhou Ruian, Jin Shaoshan, Liu Lianrong, Yuan Shihai, Wang Zhikui, and the exhibition shows the drama list performed by Mei Lanfang and these seven actors, and sorts out the cooperation process.
