On January 6, the official announced on Twitter that it would end the game's support for DirectX 9, after which it will only be compatible with DX 11. This change will begin on February 6 and will be rolled out gradually over the next 8 weeks. On April 18, everyone officially plans to migrate to the new DX 11 client and will not be able to launch games with DX 9.

Considering that DX 11 came out in 2009, most GPUs should support it. Users whose systems cannot run DX 11 have only two options: update their graphics card or play using cloud gaming services. It is officially confirmed that NVIDIA's GeForce Now service will support such players.

This change will allow ArenaNet to improve the graphics of Guild Wars 2 in the future. The game has been out for 10 years and the graphics are somewhat "outdated". The end of support for DX 9 will allow it to use more modern rendering techniques to provide a smoother experience while providing better graphics.
