"Lupin THE III.RD Lies of Mine Fujiko" is the third work by playwright Yuya Takahashi and supervisor Ken Koike after "The Tombstone of Daisuke of the Dimension" and "Blood Smoke of Ishikawa Goemon", and before the release of this work, Takahashi Yuya was also interviewed by Rooftop and HYPER HOBBY to talk about the charm and creative ideas of this work.
The series "LUPIN THE III.RD" was a project started by Koike supervisor and executive producer Katsuhito Ishii in order to return to the atmosphere of the original manga and the first series of TV, so the purpose was to make a hardcore, adult-oriented Lupin work. Ken Koike used to be the character designer of the TV anime "LUPIN the Third – The Woman Named Mine Fujiko", and this time he also continued to direct the "LUPIN THE III.RD" series as a supervisor, unlike the former, Koike was not involved in the creation of the plot at that time, and this was the first work of Koike Ken in the true sense. Takahashi's participation in the production of this theatrical version was in 2016, just after Takahashi finished writing Lupin III PART IV.
When he first wrote "The Tombstone of Daisuke Osuke", Takahashi did not understand the style of Koike Supervisor, nor did he see another masterpiece of Koike Supervision, "REDLINE". When he first saw the finished video, Takahashi was stunned and exclaimed, "Koike Supervisor is simply a genius." After this experience, when writing "Blood Smoke of Ishikawa Goemon" and this time "The Lie of Mine Fujiko", Takahashi also had a feeling of anticipation, because Koike's performance could always exceed his imagination. Takahashi never interfered in the storyboard, and he didn't care at all about the change of lines, after all, Koike must have his reasons for doing so.
Takahashi's first Lupin series was "The Tombstone of Daisuke Otoji", and it was precisely because of the success of this film that he participated in "Lupin III PART IV." as a series composition, and then "Blood Smoke of Ishikawa Goemon" and "The Lie of Feng Fujiko". LUPIN THE III.RD was originally conceived as a one-season TV anime and eventually formed the form of a front and back story. In addition to Ishii, Koike and Takahashi, Telecom Animation Film representatives, Producer of the "Lupin III" series Yumeto Seimoto and Tsunaya Suzuki, who is in charge of planning and development, will also attend the scripting session.
Originally based on the concept conceived by Ishii, Koike designed the characters, from the shape to the way of attack, favorite food, etc., Takahashi sorted out these materials, conceived the reasons and background parts of these characters fighting with the dimensions and the five right guards, and then created the whole story. Enemies without personality will make the charm of the whole story fade, whether to put him in the strong or add the element of frightening, Takahashi has to rack his brains for this every time. This time, it is also based on Ishii's outline, starting with the villain Binkam, long untrimmed hair, sharp eyes, slender body shape, slender nails, and an image that looks like a zombie, which is polished by Koike's supervision, and then Takahashi creates the background of his story.
The title of this time was added by Takahashi after he had finished writing the script. Lying is a common occurrence for the second son, and there are countless lies in the story, either obvious or uncertain. The new attempt to join this time is about whether there is a motherhood in the second son. Whether it is the young Jean or this enemy Binkam, both are the opponents of the previous fuji son's weapon "seduction" and speech skills, facing such a role, how to face the fuji son, this is one of the themes of this work, which is also the part that the past fuji son did not show.
Because Jean is still a child, seduction does not work for him, and the child is the weakness of the second son. Thus revealing a motherhood that fuji himself could not have foreseen. Exactly how this point is expressed in the play, please wait and see. The battle scene between Fujiko and Binkam is also a performance that Fujiko has not seen before. In the past, there have been doubts about whether Fujiko is suitable for playing, but this time Takahashi decided to let Fujiko play a hard time, please be sure to look forward to Koike supervising the exquisite action scenes.
Regarding the shaping of these two characters, Takahashi said that there is no obvious prototype reference, purely conscious of writing characters that Make Fujiko is not good at dealing with. Because it is a strong enemy, it must be shown that this is an enemy that fujiko can hardly defeat. In the case that both seduction and speech are "sealed", how she will turn the danger into a disaster is also a problem facing Takahashi this time.
For Takahashi, the identity of Mitsuho Fujiko is a female spy and a female thief is full of infinite reverie, on beauty she is a perfect woman, her charm can not be written endlessly, Takahashi said that he hopes to write fujiko as a woman is unknown, not only to write her strong side, her weak side will also make her more humane. When writing, he does not directly write the "mood" of the character, hoping to express it in a more ambiguous way. After all, the role of Fujiko cannot be "taken for himself", but the audience must have their own opinions, and it is up to the people who watch to judge and understand what kind of woman Fujiko is.
In Takahashi's view, the story of Lupin III is not limited to a scope, full of unlimited potential, of course, this is also a more difficult part to write. It has a history of more than half a century, but it has endured and kept pace with the times. In addition to the frenzy of "LUPIN THE III.RD" supervised by Koike, the sound, action, and pictures can make people feel realistic. The scenes of gunfights and car chases are particularly shocking, which is inseparable from Koike's dedication to character acting, which is bloody.
In fact, Takahashi has another layer of themes hidden in the "LUPIN THE III.RD" series. "The Tombstone of Daisuke of the Dimension" is "wind", so it is decisive in the moment when the wind stops; "Ishikawa Goemon of Blood Smoke" is "water", so fighting with the gangsters in the rain; "The Lie of The Peak Fujiko" is "sand", in addition to the wilderness of sand dust, Binkam's dry heart is also the expression of "sand". In addition to feng shui sand, the respective weapons and fighting methods are also the places that Takahashi values more. If you compare them to beasts of prey, Takahashi believes that the dimension is a bird of prey, the five right guards are loyal dogs, and fujiko is a cat. It is precisely because cats are desert animals that the theme of "sand" is used.
In addition, the place that makes Takahashi care is the scene of smoking. It is not because this is an adult-oriented Lupin that the smoking scene is deliberately depicted, purely because the role of Lupin is inseparable from cigarettes and alcohol anyway. They are thieves, men and women born of lust. In a sense, these "poisons" are their symbols, and if they are not indulged, they cannot reflect their "profession".
Finally, Takahashi said that she is also Koike Ken's Feng Fujiko, but in "LUPIN THE III.RD The Lie of Feng Fujiko", she will have a completely different performance from "LUPIN the Third – The Woman Named Feng Fujiko". As to whether Feng Fujizi's "lie" is true or false, the audience is also asked to move to the cinema to judge.
