Cultural people are very good at using rhetoric to balance the various comparisons. The evaluation of each film studio has a literal conceptual conclusion. For example, Shangying is the birthplace of Chinese cinema, and Changying is the cradle of New Chinese cinema. What is the difference between a birthplace and a cradle? I wondered, why is the long shadow the "cradle" and the upper shadow not?
The first time I went to Changchun FAW on a business trip, I passed by Changchun Film City and happily got off the bus to take pictures in front of the gate, but I had doubts and felt how this long shadow was not what I thought it was. In my imagination, the long shadow should be larger than a university campus, with a straight boulevard, a huge meiji building's photo studio, and a courtyard full of a heavy sense of age.
Last autumn, I went to the Changchun Film Museum and suddenly realized that the real long shadow site was here. However, there is only one long shadow old building used as a museum, and it is so closely enclosed by an ugly circle of high-rise commercial residential buildings that it is difficult to take pictures and it is difficult to avoid the new buildings that are very contrary to the appearance of the surrounding buildings.
The long shadow itself is a huge gold signboard. But whenever you travel to Changchun on business, people will think of "China's largest film production base", to see the largest film studio and prop library in Asia, and to see the largest film printing factory, translation studio, and science and education film factory in Asia. However, these are all gone forever.
And the old shadow in the memory of our two generations is only a concept.

the eldest son of the new Chinese film industry

The black-and-white art films of the old Shanghai films and the stars of the old Shanghai films, such as the stars on the sky, shine in the history of Chinese cinema. The predecessor of Changying was the "Manchurian Yinghua Co., Ltd." in the Manchukuo period, that is, "Manying". The films we produce have no chance to see, and may eventually disappear into the dust of history.
The northeast was the first to be liberated, and the factories that received the Japanese were also the first. The first film factory owned by the Communists was this Manchurian film. In 1945. Cadres from Yan'an resolutely transformed it into the "Northeast Film Studio of the Central Film Bureau", that is, "Dongying".
As a result, the first film factory in New China was born in Changchun, and in 1955 it was renamed Changchun Film Studio. Changchun, a city with a history of less than 200 years, is famous all over the world through the carrier of new Chinese films.
Resources, tilted towards the eldest son of the Republic. Because the props and hardware facilities in the factory have a strong foundation, the lineup of film professionals is neat. Changying has created the best of seven new Chinese films in a row: the first puppet film "Emperor's Dream", the first animation film "Catching Turtles in an Urn", the first scientific and educational film "Prevention of Plague", the first translated film "Ordinary Soldier", the first short story film "Leave Him to Fight Old Jiang" and the first feature film "Bridge".
Born out of old Shanghai, in the early days of the Republic, Shangying was known for making musical and opera art films such as "Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai", "Dream of the Red Chamber" and "Female Pony". Changying is more good at shooting the main theme of hard lines with the roughness and masculinity of the northeasterners, such as "China Daughter", "Zhao Yiman", "Iron Warrior", "Red Child", "Daughter of the Party", "White-haired Girl", "People's Warrior", "Dong Cunrui", "Visitor on the Iceberg", "Ji Hongchang", "Bianzhai Beacon", "Shangganling", "Mysterious Traveling Companion", "Plain Guerrilla"...

At that time, no film studio had received more party and state leaders than Long Shadow. Since then, in the past few decades of brilliant development, Changying has won the most "film of the best": the most awards, the most production, the most famous actors, the most classic film songs, the most financial profits...
So, why is Changying known as the "cradle of new Chinese cinema"?
In 1949, after the liberation of the whole country, according to the needs of the development of the situation, a large number of management cadres, technical personnel and artistic talents were drawn from Dongying (that is, Changying) to Beijing, Shanghai and other places to receive enemy and pseudo film institutions, establish new factories for documentaries, art films and fine art films, transport blood, establish genes, lay the foundation of the three major film bases in Beijing and Shanghai, and consolidate the national film industry. The old artist Yu Lan was transferred from the long shadow to the north shadow during this period.

The fifties, the morning of the Republic, was the first glorious decade of the Long Shadow.
In the most prolific years, 19 films were produced in 50 to 52 years alone. Since then, this creative climax has occurred frequently, and it has continued until the filming of "The Founding Ceremony" in 1989, which has been brilliant for thirty years. It peaked in the mid-1980s, when 1/6 of the country's film production was produced by long-form films, while 1/3 of the award-winning films were produced.
In the era of the planned economy, films existed as industrial production and did not yet create brand awareness. Long Shadow has the largest number of 7 studios in the country, with an annual production capacity of 20 films, and has produced various films in a large-scale, large-scale and structured manner, which has won a well-known reputation.
Changying is also the earliest and most professional translation and production production base in China.
The Changying Translation And Production Branch, founded in the autumn of 1948 for the translation and production of Soviet films, "began the initial process of the new Chinese film translation and production industry." The outstanding voice actors represented by Xiang Junshu have translated more than 1,100 films in more than 10 languages in 50 countries.

In the heyday of the 1950s, Changying translated 433 films, an average of 44 films per year, often with four or five groups of hundreds of people working at the same time. His translations include former Soviet films such as The Great Turn, The Flame of Rage, The Battle of Stalingrad, The Capture of Berlin, Lenin in October, Paul Kochakin, The Tractor Driver, The Country Doctor, Resurrection, The Quiet Don, The Captain's Daughter, and other former Soviet films, as well as films from various countries such as Wanderer, When the Time Strikes, and Rome at Eleven O'Clock. Even in recent years, long-form film translation production is still in production, "Madagascar", "Smurfs", "Despicable Me", "Godzilla", "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and so on, are all produced by Long Shadow.
Of course, now the audience's attention to the translation of the film, are locked in the Shanghai Film Translation Studio, they are more inclined to have a profound analysis of human nature of the literary masterpieces adapted to the film translation, which is also the strength of each family.
The earliest production of long film science teaching films was in 1948. In 1965, when the science and education film studio was reorganized, 35 college students were suddenly introduced from various colleges and universities in the three eastern provinces to enrich the creation of science and education films as professional talents. The topics are widely selected, covering many categories such as industry and agriculture, medical and health sports, science and technology and energy, and have won many professional awards at home and abroad.
Changying also once ran its own film school. In May 1960, the Changchun Film Academy was founded, with five departments of film literature, film directing, photography, fine arts and performance, and cultivated 150 film professional artistic talents. Unfortunately, it was discontinued in 1962. In accordance with the spirit of national simplification, students from the Department of Film and Literature and the Department of Acting were merged into the Jilin Normal University and the Jilin Provincial Art College respectively, and students from the Department of Directing, the Department of Fine Arts and the Department of Photography were successively assigned to work.
In 1961, China selected the top 22 stars of New China, and his portraits were provided to cinemas and overseas film expo activities to hang, which was warmly sought after by the majority of film fans, and the enthusiasm endured. Among the 22 stars, there are four performing artists of Changying, Li Yalin, Zhang Yuan, Pang Xueqin, and Jindi. They come from the Long Shadow Actors Troupe.
The Long Shadow Actors Troupe was formerly known as the Northeast Film Studio Literary troupe in 1946. By the eve of the liberation of the whole country in 1949, the regiment had reached more than 60 people. By the end of 1998, there were 107 actors in the choreography. At the same time, the employment of the film industry is not limited to the national secondment of the unit, and the handsome men and women in the courtyard come and go.
"Flowers of the Motherland", "Young People in Our Village", "Five Golden Flowers", "Liu Sanjie", "Jia Wu Fengyun", "Soldiers Approaching the City", "Entrepreneurship", "The Gunshots of the Secrecy Bureau", "Ji Hongchang", "Middle-aged People", "Stories That Should Not Happen", "Ward Sixteen", "No. 5 Garden Street", "Tan Sitong", "Founding Ceremony", "Chongqing Negotiations", "Major Of artillery", "Seven·Seven Incidents", "Xinhai Revolution", etc., are all full of the figures of the actors of this troupe.
At that time, although non-governmental tourism had not yet formed a climate, the people who came to visit Changying were all organized groups, and the office had to receive hundreds of people every day. The whole studio exudes a vigorous heat.

the long shadow flourishes and decays

Some people say that the decline of the long shadow first began with the orchestra, which is just a symptom.
In the mid-1980s, the prestigious Long Shadow Orchestra continued to perform, rehearsing every day, singing and dancing, and people came and went, but this was the last glory.

Hong Kong and Taiwan entertainment hit the mainland literary and art market, starting with popular songs. It was also the early 1980s, Taiwanese campus songs and Teresa Teng's remake box tape grabbing the mainland. By the mid-1980s, the tide of commercial films from Hong Kong and Taiwan poured in, and the campus was surrounded by video halls, just like the Internet cafes that later played police gun battles and tertiary films day and night.
Long Shadow, like a chinese character face uncle with a righteous face and thick eyebrows and big eyes, looked at the ancient puzzle boy who was swimming around him and disdained it. He is still in charge of politics and is keen on war literature and art and military themes; he still lacks humanistic color and neglects the laws of art and the law of the market. Straight and clumsy, imitating Hong Kong and Taiwan, but always learning from it, they gradually went from brilliant to plain, and were squeezed and pushed aside by other film studios.
At that time, the film studios quickly transformed, and the screen shifted to a strange erotic vendetta. Pearl River, Xiaoxiang, Guangxi, Inner Mongolia, Fujian, Nanjing, Shenzhen, Youth Factory and other places produced "Crazy Singer", "Cruel Desire", "The Last Madness", "Cruel Lover", "Merry Female Detective", "Thunderbolt Action", "Rock Youth", "Silver Snake Murder", "Black Temptation" and so on stimulate the audience's senses. These mentioned films are still faintly remembered by the audience because of the stars.
And more bad films such as "So-and-So Action", "So-and-So Blood Case", "So-and-So Suspect", "So-and-So Plan", "Merry So-and-So", "So-and-So Killer", "Chaotic World So-and-So" and so-and-so have completely disappeared from people's memories. Only when searching for documents like the "Catalogue of Old Movies in the Eighties" will you be surprised to find that we have made so many bad films in those years.
Long films, which are always at the forefront of the times, were finally left out of the market during the period of film commercialization transformation that began in the mid-1980s. In 1993, the Ministry of Radio, Film and Television issued the No. 3 document on the reform of the Chinese film mechanism, which was nothing less than worse for Changying. The core of the document is that China Film Company no longer buys and underwrites domestic feature films, and each studio must bear its own profits and losses and sell its own films!
This year, Changying, the giant of new Chinese cinema, ushered in its first year of loss.
The imperfect cinema distribution mechanism, several factory directors took office, and the investment was lost one. "Male and Female Director", which cooperated with Zhao Benshan, is the only film that has not lost money but has not made money. And Changying has its own nursery, police station, health center, motorcade, school, fire brigade, except for the cremation factory, everything is available. There are 3,000 employees, half of whom are retired. Big factories, small societies, the burden is so heavy, making a film means a loss. As a result, Long Shadow no longer made independent films.
In the nineties of the Great Depression of domestic movies, the Long Shadow Orchestra also disbanded, and the Long Shadow suddenly became quiet.

will the long shadow be reborn in the fire phoenix nirvana
?
In 1995, American blockbusters came. What is The Shadow doing?
In order to generate income, Changying signed a contract with all the artistic talents, let them go out to work in the cave, and came back to pay the management fee to the factory proportionally to the labor income; at the same time, the Chinese "Kodak Cinema" Changying Theater was rented out as a discotheque, which symbolized the holy place of film and finally became a place of wind and snow.
Can you imagine? The goddess-like big stars in the minds of those generations, Song Xiaoying, Jiang Lili, and Fu Yiwei, have wandered out and become quasi-freelancers, and their shadows can no longer be seen on the screen.
Jiang Lili served as the host of the CCTV Spring Festival Gala
Ten years later, in 2005, more than a thousand Long Shadow people returned to Long Shadow, but they were actually recalled to buy out their working years and signed to dissolve their relationship with Long Shadow. No one expected that the reform of the severed arm of the state-owned enterprise at the beginning of the new century would not only be painful for the manufacturing industry of the old northeast industrial base, but also the long shadow of the famous one whose main industry was art production would collapse so violently.
There are more than 300 long-shadow artists who choose to drift in Beijing North. Of course, as a long shadow artist with the endorsement of the long shadow gold sign, even if the north drift will be better than people in other industries, there is still no problem in settling in the high-end community in Beijing.
Talent is dismissed. What about those fixed assets?
"During the transition period from a planned economy to a market economy, Changying encountered unprecedented difficulties due to many unadaptability of the system, concepts, and so on." Therefore, at a price of 300 million yuan, the land in the old factory area was transferred to a private enterprise for real estate development, and he borrowed money to build a film and television entertainment city in the cityside development zone and entered the amusement industry.
In 1998, some media reported that "Long Shadow was sold", which was reprinted by overseas media and public opinion responded strongly, and Long Shadow pursued the responsibility of that media for this. They believe that Changying is "the first in the national film industry to complete all the tasks of changing things into enterprises and restructuring state-owned enterprises" (Changying's official website).
If the skin does not exist, the hair will be attached. The land was sold, and the buildings on it were all demolished. What about the seven largest soundstages in the country? What about Asia's largest prop library?

The variety and quantity of the Long Shadow Props Library is second to none in Asia, not only many, but also the highest value. The long shadow props are the historical added value of the republic's tribute film, and any one of them can enter the museum as a film relic. However, in the face of unstoppable and tremendous changes, most cultural relics were first rushed into the second-hand goods market by the torrent of history, and then in the hands of cultural relics dealers.
And later?
Later, Changying was committed to "building a set of film and television production, film and television entertainment, film and television business, film and television performing arts, film and television education, film and television media, film and television technology, etc." Diversified operations, built bases and digital platforms in Changchun, Haikou, etc., and built domestic "first film theme park", "China's first film theme concert hall", "large-scale national international film industry park", etc., which sounded very good in concept.
It is said that "a bloody road has been killed, a living road has been spelled out, and a new road has been broken", according to which it has been rated by the Central Propaganda Department as "An Excellent Enterprise in the Reform of the National Cultural System", "An Advanced Enterprise in the Reform of the National Cultural System", and "An Advanced Unit in the Reform of the National Cultural System".
In short, as old audiences, we all want long shadows to be good!
Long shadow, must be reborn in the fire, phoenix nirvana!
