A few years ago, I saw an exhibition at the China Oil Painting Institute, which is the personal collection of the famous collector Sun Peicang, in addition to the works of domestic masters such as Zhang Daqian, Xu Beihong, Wu Zuoren, etc., there are also a considerable number of works by Western oil painters, including a French painter Adrian Henri Tannook's "Portrait of a Woman", which may be the only work of Tannook that can be seen in China. At the exhibition, I also saw a French romantic painting master Delacroix's "Othello and Tess de Mona", and I remember that there was also a work by the realist master Courbet, which were purchased directly from France in those years, which were really precious.

Most of Tannook's subjects are portraits of people in the interior, but there are also some works that depict scenes of rural life. His creative style is typical of the neoclassical school, accurate shapes, rich and vivid colors, and the people and objects in the paintings are full of full expressions and vivid expressions, fully showing the romantic life of the French in the early 20th century.

The work below is titled "Giving Your Daughter"

In the background is a very luxurious room, a man who looks like a nobleman is lying on the sofa, an old man brings his daughter into the room, he wants to give his daughter to the noble, the daughter is of course very reluctant, and covers her face with her hands in pain. The arrogance of the nobles, the helplessness of the old man, and the sadness of the girl are vividly expressed.

In Tannook's work, the impressionism and oriental atmosphere that prevailed in Paris at that time can also be clearly seen, which can be expressed in his use of light and the costumes of his figures, as well as in the decoration of the interior environment.
