You will definitely think that this object is very similar to a tumbler, yes, its state of motion is indeed very similar to a tumbler, but its internal structure is very different from that of a tumbler, and even scientists once thought that such an object did not exist.
And the magic of it is that it is a homogeneous object with only one stable equilibrium point and one unstable equilibrium point. Before explaining this problem, let's first understand what is a stable equilibrium point and an unstable equilibrium point. For example, taking a common egg as an example, we can stand it on the table by external force, but as long as the slight force changes, this balance will be broken, and what makes the egg balance is the unstable equilibrium point. Conversely, when the egg lies horizontally on the table, the balance point is the stable balance point. In this way, Gumbutz is the same as a tumbler, and there is nothing magical about it. But in fact, the tumbler achieves non-collapse and maintains the same stable form, which is determined by changing the weight between the upper and lower, the lower part of the tumbler will be heavy, but the upper part will be very light, so that the center of gravity of the tumbler will be very low.
So is there an object with an internal weight balance, with both an equilibrium point and a non-equilibrium point, that can be knocked down like a tumbler and reverted to the same state. This was exactly the problem posed by a Russian mathematician Vladimir Arnold in 1995, but among the homogeneous objects in three-dimensional space, people did not even find objects with fewer than 4 equilibrium points, so the problem was gradually forgotten until Gombuz was invented 10 years later.
Gumbutz was invented in 2006 as an object that does not exist, so how does it achieve a homogeneous object at an equilibrium point and a non-equilibrium point?
The reason why Gumbutz was described as an invention rather than a discovery is because Gumbutz was not an object that existed in nature. It took Hungarian mathematician Gabol Domokoš and his student Peter Valkoni 10 years to make it. While the vast majority of people draw impossible conclusions through practical experience, they believe that they can find a three-dimensional solid with a stable equilibrium and an unstable equilibrium point and a uniform texture through mathematical calculations, and can further manufacture it.
Through a lot of research and calculation, they finally found the possibility of such an object, and in 2006 they officially launched the object, naming it Gombutz. And Gumbutz is the first object in the world to have this nature, and it is also a special physical form of man-made.
And it is known at the Shanghai World Expo held in 2010, when the Hungarian National Pavilion displayed it as a treasure of the town pavilion, and Hungary gave it a lot of meanings, such as Gambutz can be like a tumbler, although always knocked down, but eventually can return to the original state, and this symbolizes the Hungarian nation, always able to stand up again in setbacks. Gumbutz, on the other hand, always returns to a stable point, which is considered to symbolize balance and harmony.
However, the most important thing about the emergence of Gumbutz is to reflect the spirit of persistent science. The two scholars who invented him did not give up exploration because of the difficulties visible in reality, nor did they follow the conclusions of their predecessors, which is exactly the spirit of constant questioning that science needs.
But after the invention of Gumbutz, an object that did not exist, another question arose: what was its use. But from the current point of view, it has no practical application, except for the mathematical proof of such a principle, it seems to have no impact on real life. And even if the Gumbutz entity that is made is generally only displayed as a handicraft, the value of Gumbutz should be far more than that, it should have greater value.
Is it really meaningless to be able to tear down and return to stable Gumbutz like a tumbler?
When the two Hungarian scholars were sneaking in search of such a homogeneous object that could have an equilibrium point and a non-equilibrium point, they probably did not think about what it was for, just as mathematicians proved various theorems, nor did they think about what practical use it was, because theoretical research itself is not prepared for immediate use in reality.
But Gumbutz is not fabricated, in the real world can be found Gumbutz's shadow, have you ever thought about how turtles turn over after being turned over, in fact, most turtles are through their small short legs and heads, constantly shaking to find their balance to achieve turnover, but there is an Indian star turtle, but there is an Indian star turtle, but do not need to shake limbs to assist, can easily turn over, from four feet to the sky to four feet to the ground. People were surprised to find that the shape of the shell of this turtle is very similar to the shape of Gombuz, and the shell of 3 species of turtles has been found to be in this shape.
Whether this is a coincidence or the magic of nature, we don't know, but in the evolution of all things, nature has long shown us the answers to all the secrets of the world, but we have not found that until scientists bring a seemingly new object or idea to us, we will suddenly realize, which may be the meaning of Gombuz's existence.
However, although Gambutz can be manufactured, but in order to achieve the same effect as the mathematical model, but also more precise processing ability, Gambutz overall is relatively smooth, need very fine grinding to ensure that it becomes a standard Gumbutz, more importantly, Gambutz's stable point and unstable point on the same plane, and this requires that the error in processing cannot be greater than 0.1 mm, otherwise it may not be possible to achieve a perfect display.
So whether a perfect Gambutz body can be made shows the manufacturing capabilities of a country. As for Gombuz's eventual application, scientists are still studying it, believing that one day this originally non-existent object shape will have its own usability.
