Liu Zhi saw that the situation was not good, and put Deputy Commander-in-Chief Du Yuming in charge of the front-line command, but he himself ran to Bengbu with a smoke, and the results of the Huaihai Campaign were known to readers: "Du Yuming, deputy commander-in-chief of the Xuzhou Bandit General Headquarters and director of the Forward Command," was captured, "Qiu Qingquan, deputy director of the Forward Command and commander of the Second Corps of the Xuzhou Bandit General Headquarters," was killed, half a million of Chiang Kai-shek's troops were all annihilated, and only Li Mi, commander of the Second Corps, and Jiang Weiguo, commander of the Chariot Regiment, escaped by chance.
Jiang Weiguo, who escaped from the encirclement after nine deaths, naturally wanted to complain to his father, and when he complained, he scolded Liu Zhi for being incompetent: "This Commander-in-Chief Liu is called a fu general, but it is a synonym for doing nothing!" ”
Unexpectedly, old Jiang, who had just escaped for his son, was furious when he heard this: "Colonel Jiang Weiguo, you can't just talk about an army general with outstanding military achievements!" ”
Seeing this, many people may laugh: Liu Zhi's outstanding battle achievements? Do Li Mi and Qiu Qingquan agree with this? Du Yuming, who had already become a prisoner of war and was smashing his own head with a brick, listened to it, how would he feel?
As one of the "Five Generals of Jiangxi", Liu Zhi had four nicknames: "Fu General" during the Northern Expedition, "Changsheng General" during the Central Plains War, "Long-legged General" during the War of Resistance Against Japan, and "Pig General" during the Liberation War.
Liu Zhi looks like a rich man in the dough, and is the best at showing loyalty and patting the horse's ass, which is quite pleasing to the old Jiang. Li Yannian's "leaking secrets" refers to Liu Zhi's relationship with the salt merchant Tang Mou, who was too close, and even gave Tang And Pan the transfer of troops and asked the salt merchant to go with him all the way.
This Tang Mou smugly revealed the transfer situation to Li Yannian, but Li Yannian, as deputy commander-in-chief, realized it in hindsight, and naturally almost twisted his nose.
Li Yili specially opened a chapter in "Overview of the Annihilation of Chiang Kai-shek's Army in the Battle of Huaihai", and the subtitle was "Liu Zhi's Ugly State in the Battle": Advanced Salt Shop and Then Troops; Afraid to Stay in Xuzhou when it was difficult; and electrified Xuzhou in various provinces.
Liu Zhi opened several salt shops in Haizhou, the agent is the Tang we said earlier, Liu Zhi told Tang all the action plans, and Tang told other salt merchants, so the news of the salt merchants was more informed than the "deputy commander-in-chief" Li Yannian.
Liu Zhi's "blessing" came from his ability to throw pots: Seeing that Xuzhou was about to be lost, he instructed Chief of Staff Li Shuzheng to suggest to Lao Jiang that he move his command post to Xuzhou and give command of the front to Deputy Commander-in-Chief Du Yuming and Deputy Chief of Staff Wen Qiang, and Lao Jiang actually approved this strange proposal, so Liu Zhi Li Shuzheng escaped, and Du Yuming and Wen Qiang both became prisoners.
As for lying about Xuzhou's great victory, readers all know that the author needless to repeat, but what I want to tell here is a small joke: Liu Zhi thought that he had won the battle, and not only reported the victory to old Jiang, but also sent telegrams to the chairmen of various provinces, and everyone also congratulated them one after another; old Jiang also specially sent "propaganda minister" Zhang Daofan with a huge group of reporters to come to offer condolences and interviews; in order to express solemn celebration, Liu Zhi ordered the people and officers and men of Xuzhou to buy firecrackers from their own pockets, and Zhang Daofan brought "condolence money." Issued to the soldiers, it is not the current ocean, but three yuan of gold coupons per person!
Li Yili did not write wrong, you did not read it wrong, Liu Zhi issued to the soldiers, that is, three yuan of gold yuan coupons per person, at the end of that year, a million gold coupons can only buy a few burnt cakes.
Liu Zhi and Li Shuzheng ran away, Du Yuming and Wen Qiang became back cookers, and in addition to their anger, they also wrote memoirs, the title of Du Yuming's article was "The Beginning and End of the Huaihai Campaign", and Wen Qiang's title was "The Chaos of the Xuzhou "Suppression General" Headquarters During the Huaihai Campaign."
Speaking of Wen Qiang alone, readers may not be familiar with it, and if you want to mention Liu Anguo, the "little expert with a heart" in "Amnesty 1959", everyone may smile heartily - Liu Anguo's historical prototype is the lieutenant general Wen Qiang, who acted as the deputy chief of staff of the "Xuzhou General Staff".
In the real history, Wen Qiang's writing was also very sharp, and he denounced Liu Zhi in his memoirs for "being unashamed" and "boasting big bulls", and exposed Liu Zhi's old bottom: "Some people think that Liu Zhi is a general of the defeated army, but old Jiang and He Yingqin take his loyalty and reliability, and also superstitiously believe that he is a lucky general, thinking that if he can cooperate with a young and strong and capable person, he may be able to achieve something, so he decided that Du Yuming was Liu Zhi's deputy. ”
Wen Qiang (Liu Anguo) hated Wang Yaowu and Du Yuming, and it was not unreasonable, because it was Wang Yaowu's fiasco in Jinan that triggered the Battle of Huaihai, and if it were not for General Du Yuming, Wen Qiang would still be in Hunan as the "first lieutenant general and director of the general office of the Appeasement Office" - if he stayed up for a few months, he could revolt with Cheng Qian Chen Mingren, so when he was awarded the title in 1955, he could have at least two general stars on his shoulders.
Wen Qiangsheng was angry with Du Yuming, and Du Yuming was also aggrieved and had nowhere to say, except that he complained about the old Jiang Wei's blind command, he hated Liu Zhi's incompetence and throwing the pot: "After I drew up the battle plan, Liu Zhi and his chief of staff both thought that I used too many troops, so that the headquarters controlled too few troops, afraid of an accident in Xuzhou, and after fierce discussions between the two sides, finally Liu Zhi reluctantly agreed, but left the Thirteenth Corps to garrison Xuzhou. ”
The battle plan drawn up by Du Yuming was to concentrate forces on attacking Erye of the People's Liberation Army, and then to fight Sanye after breaking erye, but he did not expect that Liu Zhi would come to the bottom of the pot to save his life.
