Shenzhen, November 3 (Zhu Zuying) -- The Shenzhen branch of CNOOC (China) Co., Ltd. said on the 3rd that the Liuhua 29-1 gas field jointly developed by China National Offshore Oil Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "CNOOC") and Husky Petroleum China Co., Ltd. was successfully put into operation. When the field is put into operation, the annual production of new natural gas will be enough for about 10 million residents to use for a year.

It is reported that this is the third deep-water gas field in the South China Sea after the Liwan 3-1 gas field and the Liuhua 34-2 gas field. Previously, CNOOC and Husky Oil China jointly developed the Liwan 3-1 gas field in 2014. Since then, Liuhua 34-2 gas fields have been put into production, and together with Liwan 3-1 gas fields, they form the core of the rolling development of deepwater gas fields in the eastern south China Sea, forming the first deepwater gas field group in the South China Sea.

Up to now, the gas field group has produced more than 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas, which is equivalent to the annual gas consumption of nearly 200 million households and families of 3, and the annual gas supply accounts for about 25% of the total natural gas consumption in Guangdong Province, injecting impetus into the economic and social development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The Liuhua 29-1 gas field, which is put into operation, is located in the eastern waters of the South China Sea, with a water depth of 640 meters to 785 meters. The gas field development project includes 7 development wells, relying on the existing facilities of Liwan 3-1, Liuhua 34-2 and other gas fields to achieve regional joint development, with a peak daily output of 1.7 million cubic meters after being put into operation.

According to Wang Yijiang, deputy manager of the Liuhua 29-1 gas field development project, since the project started in May 2018, it was completed 24 days ahead of schedule under the challenge of overcoming challenges such as the new crown pneumonia epidemic. CNOOC promoted the localization of engineering resources and applied more than 10 deepwater oil and gas development technologies for the first time in China to further enhance China's deepwater oil and gas development capabilities.

Tracy Mosness, vice president of production and development at Husky Petroleum China, said that Husky and CNOOC have cooperated for many years, thanks to close communication and sincere cooperation between the two sides, the new crown pneumonia epidemic has not had a substantial impact on the Liuhua 29-1 gas field development project.

According to reports, since the reform and opening up, CNOOC has signed more than 200 foreign cooperation oil contracts with 81 international oil companies from 21 countries, and has introduced a total of 30 billion US dollars of foreign capital. Among them, the eastern waters of the South China Sea have signed 101 foreign cooperative oil contracts and agreements with 58 overseas oil companies from 16 countries, with a cumulative cooperative production of more than 150 million tons of oil and gas.
