The Russian president has a phone call with the British prime minister to discuss issues such as climate change

According to the announcement released on the Russian presidential website on October 25 local time, in view of the fact that the United Kingdom is preparing for the upcoming Glasgow World Leaders Climate Summit on November 1-2, Russian President Putin and British Prime Minister Johnson discussed the climate issue in detail during the call. The Russian side stressed that it will continue to comply with international commitments and gradually reduce its carbon footprint. The UK side welcomed Russia's plans to achieve carbon neutrality by no later than 2060.

The two leaders exchanged views on the situation in bilateral relations. Both sides agreed that, despite certain problems, cooperation between Moscow and London should be improved in a number of areas.

The two sides also discussed international hotspot issues. Putin briefed Johnson on the outcome of the Tripartite Enlargement Meeting on Afghanistan and the "Moscow Model" meeting on Afghanistan held in Moscow last week. The two leaders are in favour of maintaining the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian nuclear issue as an important element in ensuring security and safeguarding the nuclear non-proliferation regime. Putin also detailed Russia's position on resolving Ukraine's internal conflict on the premise of unconditional implementation of the Minsk agreements. The two leaders agreed to maintain the necessary contacts on the issues raised in the conversation. (Reporter Wang Bin)
