Captain Kirk Alien Drag Racing & Rock defeats the "Swarm of Bees" fleet
Maugham wrote an essay, "The Happy Man," about a stable but confused British doctor who came to "me" for help, asking if he would have a chance to go to Spain and if he could support himself. The British doctor asked, "Are you crazy to give up a good job and pursue that unknown?" ”
Since its reboot in 2009, the Star Trek franchise has seen a seven-year itch. In addition to the sci-fi cloak of dazzling sky, Star Trek 3: Beyond the Stars tells a story about confusion. Through the four characters of Kirk, Spock, Jellya and Edison, the film shows us the different states of confusion.
The confusion of burnout
The darker tones are like Kirk's inner confusion
Kirk's confusion, somewhat similar to the settled British doctor in "The Happy Man", is the most universal.
Once, he was bent on becoming a great captain like his father and fighting for it. Now, after sitting in the chair in the middle of the Enterprise bridge for many years, he is beginning to lose himself in his identity: If it were not for his father's footsteps, what would he have become? He is also lost in a life that seems to repeat day after day: vast space, boundless, their voyage of exploration of the unknown seems to have no boundaries, what is the meaning?
The original confusion
The Vulcans' calm appearance could not hide Spock's confusion
Spock is a man who has been marching in confusion, and his confusion stems from the embarrassment of identity.
His father was a Vulcan and his mother was an Earthling, and Spock, who had inherited the characteristics of both, had been wandering in confusion since childhood. The Vulcans abandon all emotions and start from reason, but the Earthlings are irrational, emotional animals. Originally Spock, hoping to be a good Vulcan, when he found that he could not completely clear his inner feelings, he chose to leave the Vulcan Star to serve on the Enterprise. When Vulcan was destroyed, the reason of the Vulcans made him feel that he should go back and rebuild the home planet, but fortunately, the elderly Spock crossed over from the future to take on this mission, and he was able to continue the Voyage of the Enterprise with peace of mind. In this episode, the elderly Spock dies, and he is once again caught in a dilemma.
The confusion of escape
Hitting the female Jela is actually very fragile
The confusion of the female alien Jela is an escape that is powerless to resist. She and her father fall to an alien planet and are captured by the villain Crowe. During the escape, in order to protect her, her father died tragically. Because of her weakness and fear, her grievances and struggles have been suppressed ever since. After finding her own "house", she built her own small world, and since then she has exiled herself, escaping in powerlessness.
Desperate confusion
Captain Edison of the Franklin was most desperate. 100 years ago, he fought for the Interstellar Federation and achieved great military service. During a mission, unfortunately through a wormhole, he was trapped on an alien planet. After sending distress signals many times without success, the crew around him left one by one, causing him to gradually become suspicious of the interstellar federation he was fighting for. The despair of being abandoned made him drift away in confusion.
How to face confusion and confusion mostly stems from emotional entanglement and fear of the unknown. In the face of life's multiple choice questions, we always hope that someone will give us the answer. In The Happy Man, the British doctor says, "If you say you can go, I'll go; if you say stay, I won't leave." ”
The reality, however, is that no one is giving us answers. Life just gives you encounters while remaining silent.
Kirk, Spock, Jeira, and Edison met on a different planet. Faced with the crash of the Enterprise and the arrest of its crew, Kirk and Spock remained firmly on the same front. The common birth and death revived Kirk's blood, and also allowed Spock to see the emotions in his heart again. With the help of Scott, Kirk and others, Jela finally overcomes the fear in her heart and takes up arms and joins the battle.
Go? At the end of the film, they all end up making their own choices.
Due to his glorious exploits in liberating Yorktown, Kirk's application for promotion at the beginning of the film was approved, and accepting the appointment meant that he would leave the Enterprise and get a stable life in Yorktown. At the last minute, however, he gave up.
Faced with the photographs left by the elderly Spock, Spock, both intellectually and emotionally, realizes that his fate is closely linked to the Enterprise family, and he chooses to stay with Kirk to continue the unknown voyage.
Jela was accepted into the Interstellar Federation College and will start a new life in Yorktown.
What is right and what is wrong? In fact, there is no way to judge. The road in the forest, we can only choose one to walk, there is no way to compare. But in "The Happy Man," "I" say something like this to the British doctor who comes to me for help: "This involves your whole future, and you have to make your own choices." But I can tell you that if you don't want to earn money, but are content to be able to maintain a basic standard of living, then you go, because then you can live a wonderful life. ”
After a series of adventures, Kirk, Spock, and Jela should be confident and looking forward to the wonderful life that is to come, because they have chosen it so recklessly.
What the ending wants to say
And captain Edison, who was desperately confused. 100 years ago, in order to survive, he chose to use the high technology of alien protists to prolong life in a desperate situation, which is actually not right or wrong. However, he is gradually no longer satisfied with maintaining a basic life, but under the guidance of hatred, step by step to his opposite, and finally erases all the possibilities that make life wonderful again, transforms into the villain Crowe, and finally disappears into outer space.
Perhaps he himself was reluctant to admit that he had been Captain Edison
I have also wondered: in the face of difficulties, hurt and endless loneliness, why did Jeela just let herself float in confusion, and Edison fissioned? Perhaps, it is the love of her father who uses his life to keep a meter of sunshine in his heart, and he also has the ability to trust and love again. And Edison's heart was filled with the despair of abandonment. This may be a reason for us to sympathize with Edison, but if you think about it, there are actually a few crew members around Edison who are dependent on each other, and if he wants to, in fact, there is no lack of love. So in the end, there is no complaint, and all the results are only related to personal choice. At the end of "The Happy Man", the British doctor who has lived in Spain for many years said to "me": "I was poor in the past, and I will be very poor in the future, but God is on it, I am very happy." I wouldn't want to exchange the lives of any king in the world with him. "Well, the Enterprise is also something kirk and Spock don't want to exchange for any treasure."
