Trigeminal neuralgia is a common disease that occurs in the distribution area of the trigeminal nerves of the head and face, often induced by talking, eating, washing, shaving, brushing teeth and wind blowing, and is often induced by electric shock, knife cutting, burning, needle prick, tearing, stubbornness, paroxysmal, repeated sudden stops and unbearable severe pain. Pain episodes usually stop abruptly from a few seconds to 1 to 2 minutes per episode. The number of seizures at the beginning of the disease is small, and the interval period is also long, ranging from several minutes to several hours, and as the disease progresses, the seizures become more frequent, the intermittent period is gradually shortened, and the pain is gradually aggravated and intense. Fewer episodes of pain at night. There is no regularity of discomfort during the intermittent period. Trigger points (also known as trigger points) are often found on the upper lip, nose, gums, corners of the mouth, tongue, eyebrows, etc., and these trigger points can be touched or stimulated to stimulate pain. The side of the pain is caused by the pain to frown and bite the teeth, open the mouth to cover the eyes, and the patient rubs the face with the palm of the hand to relieve the pain, resulting in local skin roughness, thickening, eyebrow shedding, conjunctival congestion, tears and salivation. Trigeminal neuralgia tends to occur in middle-aged and elderly people over the age of 40, more women than men, and more on the right side than on the left side. Pain begins to spread from a certain point in the face, mouth or jaw to one or more branches of the trigeminal nerve, with the second and third branches being the most common and the first branch rare. The range of pain does not extend beyond the midline of the face (occasionally bilateral) or the trigeminal nerve distribution area. Trigeminal neuralgia has primary (symptomatic) and secondary differences, primary trigeminal neuralgia is more common, secondary trigeminal neuralgia is mostly due to tumor compression, inflammation, trauma, foramen stenosis, vascular malformations, blood circulation disorders and so on. Trigeminal neuralgia is easily confused with toothache, migraine, glossopharyngeal neuralgia, frontal sinusitis or maxillary sinusitis, etc., and local examination of the teeth and nasal cavity is differentiated by X-ray photographs, and a comprehensive neurological examination is carried out, including lumbar puncture, skull base and internal auditory tract photography, cranial CT, MRI and other tests to help distinguish secondary trigeminal neuralgia.
