Welcome to Wrexham (2022)
This is the closest to a real-life Ted Russo-esque story. When actors Rob McElhenny and Ryan Reynolds decided to buy the Welsh Association football club, the world's third-oldest town, they knew nothing about managing a sports team, let alone football. They didn't know each other well at the time. But they see an opportunity to revive the club, which has been battered by the coronavirus pandemic and a growing number of less enthusiastic fans. In this documentary, watching them turn around their team highlights the passion and camaraderie of these actors who are determined to bring positive change and hope to a community. Welcome to Rexham combines humor with heartwarming stories about a working-class town and two Hollywood comedy geniuses who begin to understand the inner workings of the game, the people and a team in order to bring home victory.
Alaska Daily (2022)
After a career failure, investigative journalist Erin (Hilary Swanke) decides it's time to start over. So she moved to Anchorage, Alaska, to work for a daily newspaper. But while Erin felt she wouldn't be confronted with the drama she experienced in New York, she found herself embroiled in a case involving a series of missing people in town. In Alaska's Native Missing and Murdered Crisis Report, Erin uses her megacity skills to shed light on a critical issue. At the heart of the Alaska Daily is a love letter to local news and its importance in the media landscape.
Only Murders in the Building (2021)
What do you get when you combine two comedy icons with a Disney Channel actor-turned-pop star? Obviously, it's a friend-style comedy about three strangers played by Steve Martin (who is also the show's co-creator), Martin Short and Selena Gomez, who come together because they both have a strong passion for true crime. But when they find out they're really involved, the situation gets tricky. Upon its launch, the show was praised for its fascinating central characters, as well as its "comical and profound" story, which foolishly examines society's obsession with this tragic genre. Keep an eye out for cameos by Tina Fey, Nathan Lane, Shirley McLean and others in the second season.
American Horror Story (2011)
American Horror Story is an anthology that revolves around its own unique story each season, including a core cast whose characters change (and some noteworthy new characters added from time to time). Each season offers a frightening psychological storyline, whether it's in a troubled family, at a witch rally, or in a hotel with circus monsters. American Horror Story is a unique TV series that makes full use of the work of the show's creator, Ryan Murphy.
The Handmaid's Tale (2017)
In the near future, an environmental catastrophe led to widespread infertility, and an extremist cult in the United States staged a coup d'état to establish the totalitarian state Gilead. In this new society, women were relegated to subordinate roles, and due to the low birth rate, a group of women known as "handmaidens" were called up to be leaders of Gilead to have children. The protagonist of "The Handmaid's Tale", Overred (Elizabeth Moss), is such a woman who is forced into ritualized sex with Commander Fred Watford (Joseph Fiennes) to provide him and his wife with a child. Without any rights and powers, Ofred struggled to live every day, hoping to be free one day. Based on Margaret Atwood's novel of the same name, The Handmaid's Tale boasts excellent performances and gorgeous, often disturbing compositions of scenes.
Schitt's Creek (2015)
Hulu has officially received streaming rights to multiple Emmy-winning series "Sze's Creek," which has moved from Netflix to Hulu. The "Fish Out of Water" story, co-starring co-stars Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara, plays Johnny Ross and Moira Rose, a wealthy businessman and bustling actress who ends up losing everything due to mismanagement of funds. The only property they managed to keep (because no one wanted it anyway) was a small town they once bought in a joke called Schitt's Creek. They reluctantly move there with their two spoiled adult children – David (Daniel Levy) and Alexis (Anne Murphy). Joy ensues as a family deals with each other and the challenges of small-town life. It's not easy, especially when they only know wealth and luxury. This drama is funny and warm, and it is worth watching for six seasons.
Grey's Anatomy (2005)
There's a reason the show is the longest-running primetime scripted medical drama: Each season takes a fresh look at the personal and professional lives of a team of doctors, nurses and other medical professionals at Seattle's St. Grace Hospital. While the cast is constantly changing, including the deaths of some of the main characters, the show's protagonist, Dr. Meredith Grey, remains a central figure on the show. With intense crossovers, special episodes presented like mini-movies, and heart-wrenching storylines, the drama, which brings "Doctor Dream" and "Doctor Sexy" to life, continues to capture the attention of a core audience and attract new audiences.
The Good Doctor (2017)
Although some fans questioned the medical show's portrayal of autism, and the sometimes embellished and gimmicky storyline, Freddie Haymore's performance received universal praise. He plays Dr. Sean Murphy, a surgical resident who is also an autism specialist. While Dr. Murphy has incredible skills and abilities, it also comes with unique challenges. The show tells not only how the crew learns to navigate Shaun's unique abilities, but also how Shaun grows as a person as he struggles to shake off his troubled past.
Frames (2019)
The streaming world is full of introspective, character-oriented comedy, and while the format of Remy feels familiar, it adds a new highlight. The eponymous character (played by comedian Ramy Youssef) is not only a 21st-century millennial, but also deals with the awkward ups and downs of work and dating. He was also a Muslim and tried to live a moral life in immoral times. "Ramie" wades through ambiguity and the hypocrisy and entanglement of the protagonist; For example, on a first date, he would kiss a Muslim woman uncomfortably, but it was good to date a non-Muslim woman, so the former scolded him badly. The show has a unique perspective and is willing to present its characters in an unflattering way.
Home Economics (2021)
Imagine three siblings, each following their own path in life, the rebellious slacker and the youngest brother ironically becoming millionaires, while the other two, smarter, more successful siblings struggle with their careers. It's a refreshing story that examines the social status of a single generation in a family and its awkward notions. Housekeeping is inspired by the true story of its co-creator Michael Colton, which makes it even more interesting. With a talented cast of familiar faces, and the perfect balance between corny jokes, typical sitcom rhetoric, and heartwarming moments, Homekeeping is worth watching with the whole family. Plus, it's finally a new sitcom, and it's not a reboot or revival of an old concept.
