Introduction of country of origin

Germany – the home of Riesling

Germany is not only famous for its beer, but wine also occupies a considerable position in the world wine scene. There is a wide variety of German wines, ranging from light sweet white wines of the usual semi-sweet type to rich and rounded noble rot dessert wines, as well as icewines with unique production methods.

Germany, one of the northernmost growing regions in the world, is classified as a "cool-climate" wine producing country. The grapes there depend heavily on the Mexican Current-- -- which influences the climate of Western Europe. The warm climate and high rainfall allow the grapes to ripen slowly and facilitate the absorption of nutrients from the soil. This promotes the accumulation of fruity, well-structured acidity, which can extend the life of white wines in particular.

Crisp, slightly bubbling, fruity, somewhat mineral – these are the characteristics that distinguish German white wines from other countries. Long growing periods (sometimes until November) and moderately warm summers result in wines that are more refined and less alcoholic than those of the southern wine-producing countries. Different soil types and grape varieties also contribute to German wine diversity.

Due to the cold climate in Germany, the grapes are generally harvested late in order to fully ripen, so the resulting wine has a fresh and lively acidity, sometimes with sugar replenishment; Germany is the home of Riesling, and the grapes produce rich, refreshing wines that today are synonymous with elegant wines with rich character.

Introduction of production areas

Pfalz – the German wine route

Pfalz is located in the south of Rheinhessen, Pfalz originally means "palace", named after the Roman Emperor Augustus built his palace here, the area of more than 23,000 hectares of grape cultivation, is the second largest wine region in Germany, after Rheinhessen.

The French Vosges Mountains extend to the Harrdt Mountains, a branch of Germany, and act like a wall to keep out the cold snap, so the Pfalz region has a warm climate and has the highest average temperature in Germany, producing grapes that are ideal for making dry white and red wines. The soil is fertile and consists of clay rich in organic matter and weathered limestone.

Bassermann-Jordan was founded by the Bassermann-Jordan family, who were born by mayors and councillors who were active in politics, and writers who wrote wine books. At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, Dr. Ludwig Bassemann-Jordan, a descendant of the family, participated in the formulation of Germany's first wine regulations, which later created the German Estate Alliance (VDP), which formed the standard for German wine. There is also Dr. Friedrich von Bassemann-Jordan's highly informative book The History of Viticulture in 1904, which became the most accurate work in this regard and is still in use today.

Barcelonaman-Jordan currently has 40 hectares of vineyards and produces 25 different wines with an annual production of 400,000 bottles. It owns 20 independent vineyards, of which more than 30% are VDP Grand Cru vineyards.

In terms of winemaking, the winery is not fascinated by new technology, but strives for antiquity and traditional craftsmanship, so that any grade of white wine, as long as it comes from the winery, can guarantee an authentic German taste.

The winery specializes in brewing dry liquor that is not sweet, which is different from ordinary dry liquor, which is fruity and sweet, and has won the appreciation of many people at home and abroad, and was once known as "the best dry white in Germany".

The winery was newly listed as a five-star winery in the Camiller Wine Guide in 2018 (only 18 wineries were selected in 2018) and won one of the five wines with perfect scores.

The Bassermann-Jordan Art Nouveau label (1905 by Alois Balmer - showing Roman Emperor Probus) is used for all other wines of the winery. These wines come from the winery collection, expanding the wine more into its soil type. They are characteristic wines, the origin of which is ecologically grown and matured according to the teachings of anthroposophy.

First-class appellations have their own characteristics, optimal growing conditions and sustainable high-quality wines have proven to be produced over a long period of time.
