The countryside of Zhaojue County is picturesque

The world's mountains and rivers lie in Shu.

Sichuan, known as the province of a thousand rivers, the Yangtze River, the Yellow River, the Jinsha River and other rivers rush endlessly. Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, also known as the Prefecture of a Thousand Rivers, 1,094 rivers start from the steep and majestic mountains and open mountains and valleys to the rivers and seas.

In the past 70 years, three giant hydropower stations in Xiluodu, Wudongde and Baihetan have risen in the valley, and 10 million-kilowatt hydropower stations have turned the water of the Taotao River into clean energy and sent it to the southeast of the motherland; Large windmills stand on ridges and river valleys, "blowing" 11.7 billion kWh of electricity every year; Photovoltaic panels cover the land in one of the best areas in the country that can develop and utilize light energy, converting the scorching light into electricity, showing a good "scene".

In the past 70 years, silent water, wind and light have been awakened by science and technology, and a "clean energy kingdom" has risen in Liangshan surrounded by mountains, as of 2021, Liangshan Prefecture's hydropower, wind energy, and solar power generation have accumulated more than 5876.5 million kilowatts (hydropower installed capacity 5325.8, wind power installed capacity 456.7, photovoltaic installed capacity 94) million kilowatts, with a total transmission capacity of about 25.7 million kilowatts, and 113.2 billion kilowatt-hours of local electricity sent through the Liangshan power grid, about 60 million people's annual domestic electricity consumption. We have made every effort to compose a picture of Liangshan for the "West-to-East Power Transmission", and contributed to the realization of the province's "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality" goal and the task of non-hydro renewable energy consumption weight.

From the State of a Thousand Rivers to the "Kingdom of Hydropower"

The people of Liangshan have never stopped their thirst for electricity. One day in December 1957, the first electric light was lit in Huidong County. Since then, the people of the city have bid farewell to the history of relying on kerosene lamps for night lighting, and the current comes from a homemade wooden turbine in Sanjia Village, Yuntang Township, two kilometers away. Since then, small hydropower has taken root in all parts of Liangshan, and it was not until August 1966 that the first single-unit 1250 kW backbone power station in Liangshan Prefecture, the Daqiao Power Station, was started.

In the 70s of last century, a group of soldiers came to the Jinsha River in Leibo County in trucks and singing songs. The locals heard that the brothers of the soldiers were surveying the construction of the large hydropower station, not to mention how happy they were. Twenty years later, the "Three Rivers Expedition" came to Liangshan, and high hopes were placed on the Jinsha River, Yalong River and Dadu River. The "large-scale development of the western region" kicked off vigorously, and large-scale hydropower stations finally gained an eyebrow in Liangshan.

In 2002, Li Youming, then a reporter for Liangshan Daily, spent 43 days and hiked more than 800 kilometers to record what the three giant hydropower stations on the banks of the Jinsha River were built, Wudongde, Baihetan and Xiluodu, and he also witnessed the newly built Xiluodu Bridge and dirt road across Sichuan and Yunnan. Three years later, in winter, the salute sounded in the valley, colorful flowers bloomed in the air, and the Xiluodu Hydropower Station, the fourth largest in the world and the third largest in China, was started.

In the following ten years, on the Jinsha River, 30 million giant hydropower stations in Xiluodu, Wudongde and Baihetan successively generated electricity; On the banks of the Yalong River, the Jinping Gemini with a total installed capacity of 8.4 million kilowatts and the Yangfanggou Hydropower Station, the first domestic million-kilowatt large-scale hydropower station built in EPC mode, are of great importance; Next to the Dadu River, the 3.6 million kilowatt Waterfall Gou Hydropower Station has been built to generate electricity...

In this land, which accounts for only 0.6% of the country, after the full development of hydropower resources, the annual power generation will exceed 280 billion kilowatt-hours, becoming a veritable "hydropower kingdom".

Big windmills "blow" 11.7 billion kWh of electricity every year

The wind, coming from the mountains and through the vast valley of tranquility, has also become a good resource in the eyes of energy experts.

According to the survey of professional institutions, the wind in Liangshan can be developed up to more than 15 million kilowatts, which is the main battlefield for the development of wind energy resources in Sichuan Province.

In 2010, the construction of the first wind power plant in Sichuan Province started in Dechang County, kicking off the development of wind power in Liangshan. After that, wind power spread rapidly in a blazing field, and large windmills could be seen everywhere on the banks of tranquil rivers, halfway up the mountainside, and on mountain ridges. On May 26, 2011, the No. 8 wind turbine turned the blades under the attention of everyone, achieving a breakthrough in the development of wind power in Sichuan Energy, and was branded as the first wind power generator in Sichuan Province. In 2016, Johnson Wind Farm completed the fifth phase of river valley wind power construction, with a total installed capacity of 202,000 kilowatts, becoming the first valley wind farm in mainland China.

In addition to river valleys, high mountains, the wind never stops.

Wind power generation in Zhaojue County

Starting from Butuo County, over the mountains, dozens of windmills stand in the wind on the Wuke mountain beams at an altitude of more than 3,700 meters, and in the pastures with rich water and plants, 23 wind turbines, herdsmen, cattle and sheep form a new picture.

By the end of 2021, 65 wind farms had been completed and put into operation in Liangshan Prefecture, with an installed capacity of 4.567 million kilowatts. After all the newly planned wind farms in Liangshan Prefecture are put into operation during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, it is estimated that the annual grid electricity will be 11.71 billion kWh, which can save 3.595 million tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 9.418 million tons per year.

Photovoltaic panels on the barren slope "born in the sun"

From October to May every year, it is the most concentrated period of light in Liangshan. The locals did not expect that the use of solar power to generate electricity also ended the history of a village without electricity in Muli Tibetan Autonomous County.

It is Geyi Village, which has only 426 households, high altitude and few people, and is the most remote village in Muli County. Villager Xiong Dong Waji used to lighting oil lamps and candles at night, and did not see electric lights until he went to work outside in his 30s. In 2015, an energy company donated rooftop photovoltaics to the village, and since then, the village has been illuminated at night. Remember the first night of the electricity, the family was reluctant to turn off the lights until the power ran out.

A year later, in Walnutyuan Village, Yanyuan County, more than 200 kilometers away from Geyi Village, a truckload of "blackboards" was transported to the charred yellow barren slopes. Since then, on 1915 acres of land, 192323 photovoltaic panels have "settled" in the warm face of the sun, forming a cotton photovoltaic power station with an annual power generation of 75 million kilowatts. The hot sunshine has made Yanyuan County a larger new energy base in Liangshan, attracting more and more projects to land. At the end of 2021, the photovoltaic project in Yanyuan County was completed and put into operation to reach 300,000 kilowatts, ranking first in the province.

"Black waves" are born into the sun, sweeping through the counties (cities) of Xide and Huili in Daliangshan. As of 2021, Liangshan Prefecture has a total of 940,000 kilowatts of grid-connected photovoltaic projects, with an average annual power generation of 1.485 billion kilowatt-hours and an annual output value of 188 million yuan.
