Gatling, a 100-meter flying man with a history of drug prohibition twice, is sought after and booed for granted

The historical stage of the 100-meter flying man war, such as Usain · Usain Bolt, Carl Lewis, Morris · Grimm and other brilliant names.

They have world records, Olympic and world championship gold medals, and are forever recorded in the roster of the 100 meters and the human speed limit.

And taking advantage of the void, although they have achieved brilliant results, there are many names nailed into the pillar of historical shame:

For example, Ben · Johnson, Montgomery, who won or lost the battle with Green, or Jones, an American female flyer, gradually faded from people's sight because of the drug ban scandal with a positive drug test.

But there is one name exception, a name that has been banned more than once, but has been sought after many times:

Justin · Gatling

Why is he "exceptional"? He who is a forbidden drug liar is not worthy

World Series, surrounded by boos

The name Gatling is often associated overseas with drug (stimulant) and cheater.

Searching for "Justin Gatlin" on the overseas edition of Zhihu Quara often shows results like this:

History of two drug bans

As one might know, Gatling was an athlete who had a stain on doping.

But his stains were found only twice.

And because of his American identity and "whistleblowing" method, he received a huge "reduced sentence".

The first doping incident was in 2001, when 19-year-old Gatlin won the NCAA in both the 100-meter and 200-meter races while studying at the University of Tennessee.

But soon after, Gatling's urine sample tested positive for amphetamines and was banned for two years by the IAAF.

Gatling appealed on the grounds that amphetamines were positive because he had been diagnosed with attention deficit disorder (ADHD) since childhood. Gatling was banned from international competitions but was still allowed to compete nationally as an NCAA athlete.

The young Gatling's appeal was effective, and the IAAF opened the net for him and resumed the competition early.

However, in 2006, at the age of 24, Gatling tested positive again.

On July 29 of that year, a month after winning the U.S. championship, Gatlin told the media that he had been told by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency that he had tested positive for drugs in April of that year — his A and B bottles were both positive.

This time, the substance that Gatling tested positive for was "testosterone or its precursor," Chinese named "testosterone or its precursor." The positive drug test was found after the relay race on April 22, 2006.

Gatling's coach, Trevor Graham, was removed from his career because eight coaching athletes tested positive for drugs. After the Gatling East Window incident, Graham and Gatling accused massage therapist Christopher Whetstine of applying a testosterone-containing cream to Gatling's buttocks without Gatling knowing it — a claim the therapist denied.

On August 22, Gatling received an eight-year athletics ban.

To avoid a lifetime ban, he worked with anti-doping authorities to "confess and expose other players." Finally, an arbitration panel reduced Gatling's ban to four years at a hearing in December 2007.

Confession from leniency, typical case.

Indelible history

Gatling was the double 100m champion at Athens '04 and the World Championships in Helsinki '05, and in 2017 he finally beat Usain Bolt at his retirement to win the World Championships again.

Even at the 2019 World Championships, he won a silver medal, when Lao Jia was 37 years old.

We marvel at the state of Comrade Gatling and the ability of the evergreen tree, in China in the East we cheer and inspire Gatling, this is normal - but

"Running fast", "in good shape", and "winning honors" are originally self-interested attributes, and an athlete who has two previous convictions and has been shielded and reduced, has done things with self-interested attributes, can it cover up the indelible facts of the past?

Are the names of those names forgotten in the dust of history because of the history of drug prohibition fair to them, and to the brave men who fought on the track and field with diligence and innocence?

Gatling is not a hero, probably not a liar, but a tainted athlete.

That's all.
