Song Yin, director of the flight management department of the No. 1 Rescue Flight Team in the East China Sea

Rescue at sea to build a lifeline

Our reporter Liu Zhiqiang

In 2010, he officially became a search and rescue pilot; In 2014, she became the first generation of female search and rescue captains on the mainland; In 2021, he became a search and rescue instructor captain... This is the growth path of Song Yin, director of the flight management department of the No. 1 Rescue Flight Team of the East China Sea (hereinafter referred to as "Dongyi Flight") of the Ministry of Transport. He has been in the company for more than 10 years, leading the crew to shuttle through the sea of clouds and save people from danger. By the end of August this year, she had accumulated 3,309 hours of safe flight, carried out 301 rescue missions with her crew, and successfully rescued 224 people in danger.

"I wanted to become a captain, but by chance, I became a captain, but fortunately, the mission is to protect the safety of people's lives." Born in 1986, Song Yin studied navigation technology at Shanghai Maritime University when he went to university. In 2007, "East One Flight" went to the school to recruit female pilots, and she stood out from 50 applicants and was successfully selected; In 2010, she obtained a commercial pilot license on the mainland and officially became a search and rescue pilot.

"A qualified maritime search and rescue pilot must first learn to fly a helicopter and then enter the sea search and rescue study." Song Yin has grown rapidly in learning day by day and performing tasks again and again. At the end of 2014, she was officially hired as a search and rescue captain, becoming the first generation of female search and rescue helicopter captains on the mainland. After becoming a captain, Song Yin has more tasks such as decision-making, flight, coordination, and communication, and has added more responsibilities and pressure on his shoulders.

At noon in December 2016, Song Yin received a rescue order that a fishing boat was operating at sea when a fire broke out in the engine room and needed emergency rescue... Song Yin immediately dispatched to carry out the task together with another crew. Arrive at the scene and see: "The ship has lost power and swings around like leaves. In order to avoid the impact of the smoke from the burning ship on the aircraft engine, we had to choose a higher altitude than the normal situation to maintain the hover..." Song Yin said, in the race against time, she carefully found a balance point, the two helicopters worked closely together, and 10 fishermen in distress safely boarded the plane and successfully escaped half an hour later.

In recent years, the mainland maritime rescue and salvage industry has developed vigorously, and the rescue and salvage system of the Ministry of Transport has 5 professional maritime rescue flight teams and 20 rescue helicopters of various types. "At present, we have 6 rescue helicopters, nearly 100 professional and technical personnel, and 24 captains and co-pilots." Song Yin said, "Youth is different because of rescue flights, and I feel honored to be able to do such work in the new era!" ”

Over the years, Song Yin has often made efforts and thought of ways in comprehensive management, production safety, and personnel training. When taking young pilots on the flight, she demonstrates gestures and explains step by step. "I will do my best to bring more young people to the cause of maritime search and rescue!" Song Yin said.

Shao Jing, assistant to the president of the Shaanxi Institute of Archaeology

Immerse yourself in archaeology and cultivate a sense of family and country

Our reporter Wang Jue

Shijiao, a small mountain village on the Loess Plateau, has won national and world attention because of archaeological discoveries, and Shao Jing, assistant to the president of the Shaanxi Provincial Institute of Archaeology, is a member of the archaeological team. Since 2012, he has adhered to the Loess Plateau and unveiled the mystery of Shiqiao..."The Bald Tail River under Shiqiao City flows quietly, witnessing the past, present and future of Shiqiao..."

In 2002, Shao Jing studied archaeology at Northwest University, and after graduating with a master's degree, she came to the Shaanxi Institute of Archaeology, and received a notice to go to the Shiqiao site in early 2012. Shao Jing has a good understanding of the working environment in northern Shaanxi, where Shiqiao is located, and is worried that it is not conducive to carrying out the work by revealing the real situation and inventory. So, Shao Jing said to the players: "Find a good place with mountains and waters." ”

The wheels rolled, and Shao Jing led the team into Shiqiao Village. The archaeological team is located in a simple cave courtyard. Shao Jing said: "When it is dark and there is no electricity, I will be frozen awake at night, and the moon shines into the house, only to find that there is no glass on the window..." Some team members asked Shao Jing: "What about the mountains and water?" Shao Jing pointed to the loess beams behind him and the dry ditch in front of the house and said, "Look at this mountain and water!" ”

Sweeping the courtyard, connecting water and electricity, installing doors and windows... The cave courtyard, which has been abandoned for 20 years, welcomed the archaeological team. Shao Jing introduced that the first cloth, table clearance, and scraping of the Shiqiao site system began from the east gate of the outer city. In October 2012, a huge gate 4,000 years ago surfaced! "The inner and outer Wengcheng, the north and south piers, and the horse face, corner platforms and other urban defense facilities on both wings have stood tall despite 4,000 years of wind and rain." Shao Jing said.

The secret under the East Gate was also revealed. The fellow once told the archaeological team that "there are jade pieces in the stone wall." Sure enough, the archaeological team found flaky jade artifacts in the stone walls. The archaeological team found that the site of Shiqiao City covers an area of more than 4 million square meters, with the "Imperial City Platform" as the center, and the inner and outer cities have a clear structure and magnificent momentum. "Sieve the soil for two and a half years, and ten thousand needles came out", the local villager described the archaeological excavation work in the upper part of the northern section of the east parapet wall; For the archaeological team, stone springs were found and identified among tens of thousands of bone artifacts. "This is the earliest reed in the world and an important discovery in the history of world music." Shao Jing said.

After arriving in Shiqiao, Shao Jing worked outside the home more than 300 days a year. On the construction site, water, electricity and communication signals are scarce, so you can only hang your mobile phone on a branch at the door of the cave to find the signal. Shao Jing said: "Others collect clothes when it rains, and the archaeological team collects mobile phones when it rains."

"This year, it is expected to determine the area where the highest level burials and cemeteries are located." Shao Jing introduced that the archaeological excavation of Shiqiao is an important work of the source exploration project of Chinese civilization, "For me personally, the archaeology of Shiqiao has cultivated my feelings of home and country and achieved my life goals. ”

Today, the Imperial City is full of flowers, and the courtyard with gray tiles and white walls behind the flowers is where the Shiqiao archaeological team is located. "The doors are wide and the windows are clear, which is a world of difference compared to the original cave station." Shao Jing said.

Wang Yu, professor of the Department of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University

From 0 to 1, achieve original results

Our reporter Zhao Yuna

In Tsinghua Garden, several red buildings stand out in the shade of trees, which is the location of the Department of Electronic Engineering of Tsinghua University. When I came to the fourth floor, I knocked on the door, and I saw many teachers and students discussing enthusiastically. Sitting in the middle of the discussion crowd was Professor Wang Yu, the head of the department. Wang Yu is currently the youngest department head of Tsinghua University, and the industry calls him the "pathfinder" of artificial intelligence chips.

In 1998, when Wang Yu first stepped into the door of Tsinghua Electronic Engineering, domestic integrated circuit research was still unpopular. By miniaturizing the size of the chip, the speed is increased and the energy consumption is reduced... Under the guidance of his mentor Yang Huazhong, Wang Yu's research aimed at the field of integrated circuits.

In 2007, Wang Yu, who graduated with a doctorate, chose to stay at the university to teach, and his supervisor asked him: "You must study problems that are different from me!" After repeated thinking and groping, Wang Yu locked in the direction of custom application domain acceleration, "At that time, from a global perspective, everyone did not find a breakthrough. Wang Yu held a breath in his heart, "Tsinghua people must dare to innovate and do their best." Doing the original innovative research of "from 0 to 1" made Wang Yu full of motivation, and also promoted him to propose a new idea of "deep learning algorithm-compilation-chip joint design" earlier.

Over the years, although Wang Yu's research perspective has been constantly switched, his foothold has always revolved around "new changes". He has always hoped that the mainland can go a little earlier and faster than other countries in the chip field.

What kind of research to do? The answer in Wang Yu's heart is four words - "stand up to the sky." The so-called "top sky" is to let the research results go to the "bookshelf" and obtain "paradigm" scientific research results; The so-called "standing" is to put research results on the "shelf" and serve economic and social development.

For a long time, the research results of Wang Yu's team have not been applied to the first-line industry for testing. In 2016, with the support of relevant national policies, Wang Yu applied technological achievements to the industry and continued to optimize the results, which were quickly recognized by all parties. In Wang Yu's view, scientific research results must be able to be used and effective, and scientific research must not only "find the real problem" but also "really solve the problem". At present, the team is deeply engaged in the research of energy-efficient circuits and systems, and the research results have been successfully applied to intelligent driving and data centers.

Dynamic, open, vibrant... For the first post-80s department head in the department, the teachers and students of the Department of Electronic Engineering of Tsinghua University are very impressed. In everyone's opinion, Wang Yu not only has the spirit of the older generation of scientists to be rigorous and responsible, down-to-earth and willing to work, but also shows the courage of young people in the new era to dare to fight and innovate.

One person may be able to go fast, but a group of people can go further. In Wang Yu's eyes, in order to solve the "stuck neck" problem in the chip field, talent is very important, and it is necessary to carry out organized scientific research, cultivate talents in different research directions, and contribute to the development of the entire chip industry chain.

Jiang Zhaohui, doctor of Chongqing Banan District Dermatology Prevention and Treatment Hospital

Take root at the grassroots level and protect the health of villagers

Our reporter Chang Biluo

Along the winding mountain road, the car circled up and stopped in a secluded courtyard halfway up the mountain. As soon as a doctor in a white coat got out of the car, someone beckoned to her: "Sister Jiang is here!" This "Sister Jiang" is Jiang Zhaohui, a doctor at the Banan District Dermatology Prevention and Treatment Hospital in Chongqing. In 2004, she graduated from Chongqing Medical University, gave up the opportunity to work in a major hospital, and took over the baton from her father Jiang Weizheng to become a leper doctor.

When Jiang Zhaohui was a child, he followed his father to visit villages in the mountains. On the eve of graduation, Jiang Zhaohui told her father that she also wanted to work on leprosy. Jiang Weizheng said: "As a father, I hope you can work in a big hospital, but as a leper doctor, I also hope that we have 'new blood' injected here." ”

In the eyes of patients, Jiang Zhaohui is both a doctor and a relative. When the patient Xiao Li was diagnosed with leprosy, he had just been married. Fear and despair diluted the joy brought by the newlyweds, and she inquired in many ways and found Jiang Zhaohui... After carefully understanding the condition, Jiang Zhaohui determined a treatment plan for her and repeatedly advised her to use the medicine. After returning home, Xiao Li received calls from Jiang Zhaohui from time to time, asking about her symptoms. Today, Xiao Li has his own children and lives a happy life..."The trust of patients is the greatest encouragement to me. Jiang Zhaohui said, "I just did some ordinary things, and I can't live up to this white coat." ”

Grandpa Li lived in the hospital all year round, knew how to weave bamboo, and his fingers were often scratched by bamboo chips. Seeing this, Jiang Zhaohui bought gloves and hand cream for Grandpa Li. "The doctor sees the disease and treats the heart. Treat patients like loved ones. Jiang Zhaohui said.

"She has a pure heart." Li Xingcui, director of Banan District Dermatology Prevention and Treatment Hospital, said. Whether it was an outpatient or an inpatient, Jiang Zhaohui always told them their mobile phone number, worried that patients would not find her. Now, under the careful treatment of Jiang Zhaohui and his colleagues, the condition of most of the hospitalized patients has been controlled; They planted flowers, walked, chatted in the yard in their spare time, and lived a full life.

Every year, Jiang Zhaohui goes to remote villages to conduct epidemiological investigations. It is both an investigation and a free clinic. "Leprosy has a long incubation period, so be vigilant." Through rural surveys, Jiang and his colleagues have been able to identify early leprosy patients in time. During the investigation, Jiang Zhaohui disseminated protection knowledge to the local people everywhere he went, "More and more leprosy patients are actively seeking treatment." Through early screening treatment, patients with leprosy have significantly reduced their deformity. Jiang Zhaohui said.

Last year, a group of young doctors came to work at the hospital, and under the leadership of Jiang Zhaohui, the new doctors quickly adapted to their work and became the health guardians of the villagers.

Dai Longcai, deputy general manager of the Philippine company of Guangxi Hydropower Engineering Bureau

Build projects and win the trust of your peers

Our reporter Che Bin

As soon as dawn broke, between the lofty mountains of Quezon and Rizal provinces in the Philippines, the roar of the machine rang non-stop, and a double shield hard rock tunnel boring machine was being assembled and debugged... The first Chinese-developed hard-rock tunnel boring machine to the Philippines will soon be put into use, marking a critical stage in the local Kaliwa Dam project.

For more than 1,500 days and nights, as the project manager of the project, Dai Longcai, deputy general manager of the Philippine company of China Energy Construction Group Guangxi Hydropower Engineering Bureau Co., Ltd., devoted himself to all aspects of the project, and was called by colleagues as "the person who is most familiar with the Kaliwa Dam project site".

The Kaliwa Dam project includes a 73.3-metre-high concrete gravity dam, a 21.9-kilometre-long diversion tunnel and ancillary facilities. This project is known as the "New Centennial Water Source" project in the Philippines. After completion, the project will supply 600 million liters of domestic water per day to the greater Manila area, fundamentally solving the local water shortage problem. Dai Longcai introduced that in the bidding stage of the project, he led the team to work day and night to compile bids, and successfully won the bid with the first place in the technical standard score.

During the initial survey and design phase of the Kaliwa Dam project, there was no road to the project site and no communication signals. The geological drilling rig equipment required for the survey can only be disassembled into parts, transported to the project site one by one by shoulder horse and then assembled. In order to obtain accurate and detailed data, Dai Longcai and other surveyors carried these heavy equipment to the mountains around the project.

The survey team rented a simple wooden house in the area. At night, mosquitoes fly in through cracks in the house, and almost everyone on the team has contracted dengue. The weather in the mountains is unpredictable, a few minutes ago it was still sunny, and after a while, dark clouds will drift and the rain will pour, "if the weather is good, the operation time will be extended to ensure the progress." Dai Longcai said that the survey team continued to work for 6 months and completed the topographic geological survey of the project.

In May 2021, the Jasmine hard rock tunnel boring machine rolled off the production line in Changsha, Hunan Province, making it a challenge to get all its components to the construction site in the Philippines. Dai led the project team to the port of Manila and the project site many times, solved the problems of bridge weight limitation and high-altitude cable height limit in the field rehearsal, and finally successfully completed the TBM transportation and assembly work.

"When I was a child, my father has been working hard for the national hydropower construction cause, and my choice of water conservancy and hydropower major was also influenced by my father." Dai Longcai said, "Over the years, China's infrastructure has gone abroad to promote the common development of all countries, which makes me sincerely proud. Since his stay in the Philippines in 2014, the 38-year-old has presided over and participated in the bidding of more than 10 projects with a total contract value of more than $1 billion.
