Historical origins
1898 year
Nicola Catena, the ancestor of the Ka family, came to Mendoza, Argentina, from Italy.
1902 year
Opening the first Malbec vineyard and establishing a family winery for four generations, bringing Argentine wines to the modern stage.
Later his grandson Nicolas Catena Zapata inherited the family business in the mid-60s of the 20th century. A world-travelling doctor of economics, he travelled to Bordeaux and the Napa Valley in the seventies and eighties, and combined with his studies, he discovered that the secret to growing the right grape variety in Argentina was to choose a location with a high altitude and a cool climate.
1992 year
Nicholas planted the Adrianna Vineyard in the Hutalaliyuk Valley. He firmly believes that this high-altitude growing region allows the grapes to ripen slowly, giving the wine its unique flavor, good balance and supple tannins.
1995 year
Her father, Laura Catena, joins her father, Nicholas, who leads a team analyzing each unique plot within Adriana's vineyard and making minor adjustments to the way the vines are managed.
The results speak for themselves, and the award-winning premium wines represent not only the best wines of Argentina, but also the best wines of the world.
1997 year
THE FIRST VINTAGE OF NICOLAS CATENA ZAPATA WAS BORN. Two years later, the Catena family and the Rafi Rothschilds established BODEGAS CARO. In 2016, Adriana Mentus Malbec became the first Argentine red wine to be awarded a perfect score by Robert Parker!
