The Spanish team is struggling

While Madrid have qualified, other Spanish teams – Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla – face knockout stages after poor performances in the group stage. Barcelona and Sevilla are in the toughest situation. Atletico, who host Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday, could finish Group B with two wins, and Barcelona could host Bayern Munich on Wednesday, as the Group C match would have been undisputed if Inter beat last-placed Victoria Pilsen at home in an earlier match. This means that Barcelona have been eliminated for the second time in a row in the group stage.

Chelsea

Back-to-back victories over AC Milan saw Chelsea rise from bottom of Group E to the top. Still, the two-time champion still needs some work to do to qualify. The four teams in the group are separated by just three points, with Chelsea heading to second-placed Salzburg on Tuesday and Milan heading to Dinamo Zagreb. The loser of the Zagreb match may be eliminated. In the event of a draw, the winner of the Salzburg-Chelsea match will advance. Salzburg are looking to qualify for the round of 16 for the second year in a row, while Chelsea have been advancing from the group stage since the 2012-13 season – when it was the defending champions. Even if Chelsea lose to Austria, the team will have another chance to advance when Dynamo visits Stamford Bridge in the final round. Among other English teams, Tottenham Hotspur lead another tense group - Group D - and if it beats Sporting at home on Wednesday, it will advance, while Liverpool only need to pick up a point at Ajax on Wednesday to pass with Napoli in Group A.

Paris Saint-Germain

Lionel Messi is looking to maintain his excellent form at Paris Saint-Germain, which are unbeaten in the league this season and will secure a place in the round of 16 on Tuesday with a home win over last-placed Maccabi Haifa in Group H. If Juventus had not won away at Benfica, a draw at the Parc des Princes would have been enough. Messi is regaining his edge and combining brilliantly with Neymar again, as it did in their Barcelona era. Messi's connection with Kylian Mbappe on the pitch is rapidly improving. On Friday, he assisted Mbappe's two goals in the game and Neymar also impressed.

Bayern Munich

Cameroonian striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is helping Bayern forget Robert Lewandowski, who scored 344 goals in 375 games for Bayern in 2014-22 before moving to Barcelona in the summer. There are fears that Bayern will be bad if they miss the Polish star because they have not won four consecutive Bundesliga matches, but those concerns have eased since the international match, with Jopo Moting scoring four goals after starting in Bayern's last three games. Chopo-Motin and Serge Gnabry helped Bayern win 2-0 over Hoffenheim. Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann praised the 33-year-old striker as "a mature top striker".

Juventus

Juventus face the prospect of exiting the Champions League in the group stage for the first time since the 2013-14 season, as it is five points behind Portugal and Paris Saint-Germain. Even a win would still give Juventus a final group game win over Paris Saint-Germain to have hope. Paris Saint-Germain and Benfica are both unbeaten in the tournament this season. Juventus beat Empoli 4-0 on Friday for their second consecutive Serie A victory, with Federico Chiesa returning to training to give a further boost. However, it lost midfielder Leandro Paredes for at least two weeks. Ángel Di Maria, Gleison Bremer and Mattia de Sigrio are also still injured.
