In 1900, 15-year-old Yanagihara Yezi married Viscount Kitakoji's intellectually disabled son Ziwu, and gave birth to a son Gongguang the following year. At the age of 34, she met journalist Ryusuke Miyazaki, who was 7 years younger than her. Hakuren and Miyazaki Ryusuke soon fell in love, and the two frequently dated on business trips and family visits, but soon the underground romance was exposed. In January 1921, Ryusuke Miyazaki was expelled from the magazine. In August 1921, Bailian found out that she was pregnant.
