With a month to go until the World Cup begins, Uruguay coach Diego Alonso has announced the 55-man preliminary list as planned, with injured Ronald Araujo and "Old Sick" Godin on the list. In addition to well-known stars such as Valverde, Núñez, Suarez and Cavani, the names of four newcomers appear in this preliminary list: Bueno, Alvarez, Olaça and Maximiliano Araujo.
As the "golden generation" faded, young coach Diego Alonso gradually created the Uruguayan national team with "Araujo Valverde Núñez" as the core axis. Unfortunately, during the warm-up match against Iran, Araujo left the field with a serious injury and eventually underwent surgery. So far, it is not known exactly when Araujo will return, but Alonso will wait until the last minute.
Araujo was injured
Diego "The Old Sick" Godin had previously undergone surgery in Spain. As things stand, his recovery is ideal, even in time for Sarsfield's final league round. What is more surprising: Nandez and Brian Rodriguez, the core members of the Tavares era, are not on the list, the former mainly because of alleged domestic violence, and the latter because they cannot play as a regular in the club.
