Oil on rural subjects by French painter Léon Lemet

Leon Augustin Lhermitte, born 31 July 1844 in Mont Saint-Pierre and died in Paris on 28 July 1925, was a French realist painter and etccher whose main subjects were depictions of working peasants and pastoral scenes. In 1864, he held an exhibition at the Paris Salon, which was recognized.

Léon Augustin Lermit's paintings have won many awards, including the French Legion of Honor (1884) and the Grand Prize of the 1889 World's Fair. Hermit's innovative use of pastels won the admiration of his contemporaries.
