Chandler actor, Matthew Perry, thanked another Friends actor who tried to help him with his alcoholism problem - Jennifer Aniston.
Perry, who spoke with ABC News reporter Diane Sawyer in his upcoming Oct. 28 talk trailer, recalled Aniston (whom he called "Jenny") confronting him about his alcoholism. Sawyer reminded Perry, she said, "We know you're drinking heavily. ”
Perry confirmed the incident.
"Imagine how horrible that moment was," he said, "you know, she was the one who helped me the most." For that, I really appreciate her. ”
Perry has been battling addiction. The actor tells everything in his new book, Friends, Lovers and Terrible Events: Memoirs, which will be published on November 1.
Perry told People earlier that he was in the early stages of alcoholism when filming on Friends began. In the years that followed, the problem worsened, so much so that four years ago, his colon ruptured from opioid use. Perry was in a coma for two weeks, hospitalized for five months, and had to wear a colostomy bag for nine months.
Perry also admitted to Sawyer that he once "took 55 vicotines a day," as well as methadone, Xnax and a bunch of vodka.
"At the time, I was supposed to be a popular star," Perry says, "and yet I was alone in a dark space with nothing but drug dealers." ”
Perry claimed in the interview that he has now quit drugs and alcohol, but would not say exactly when the transition occurred.
