The 1993 civil war in the Sudan triggered a major food famine, and more than 80 per cent of the Sudanese population depended on United Nations food relief to survive.

The picture presented in this photograph is shocking and terrifying: a girl who has starved to the point of total collapse, lying weakly on her stomach in the dry wilderness, she has no strength to lift her head and let it hang on the wilderness. And behind this girl, there is a vulture that is about to move, two eyes flashing green light are firmly fixed on the "prey" in front of him, only when the girl falls, it and its accomplices will fly over. The vulture is a species that specializes in devouring scavengers, and any animal carcass that appears on the African savannah is a good meal for them. At the moment, it is waiting...

The reporter who took this photo was Kevin Carter of South Africa, who saw this scene and immediately captured it. The photograph earned him the Pulitzer Prize for Photography, his highest honor, and became the last poison that ended his life's path.

Three months after winning the award, his body was found in a pickup truck in Johannesburg. His last words to the world: Really, really sorry everyone, the pain of life far exceeds the degree of joy.

After his award, more and more people accused him of "not saving the dying girl" as a manifestation of a serious lack of humanity, which eventually formed a storm of public opinion, causing unimaginable pressure on Kevin Carter, and finally, he chose to die in this way, which is also the last defense. In fact, the girl is a target of the United Nations, as can be seen from the logo bracelet she wears on her wrist. In the end, the girl did not die, but was rescued. The girl's father told everyone concerned about the incident that his daughter eventually died in 2007 from illness and fever. The girl's name is Kong Nyong.

The food crisis is the most terrible crisis of humankind, and it is often caused by war. The current Russian-Ukrainian war has once again posed a major threat to the international food crisis. Because Russia and Ukraine are the most important grain producers in the world.
