Experts from the Beijing Planetarium introduced that the Orionid meteor shower is a medium-flow meteor shower among the many large and small meteor showers throughout the year, and it is not large or small from the flow point of view. The Orionid meteor shower has a fast meteor speed of 66 km/s, which is relatively easy to distinguish.

The Orionid meteor shower has a long active period, starting from October 2 and continuing until early November each year, and meteors belonging to this meteor swarm can appear for more than a month. By around October 21, the Orionid meteor shower has reached a maximum flow, with maximum zenith flows expected to be above 20 per hour. The radiant of the meteor shower is located between Orion and Gemini, rising from the eastern horizon after ten o'clock in the evening, gradually rising in the middle of the night, and is due south before dawn, reaching the highest horizon height. Therefore, the Orionid meteor shower is suitable for observation in the second half of the night.

Observations are not necessarily limited to October 21,

A few days before and after,

It can be observed if the weather is fine.

October 21 is the twenty-sixth day of the ninth lunar month, the moon is located in the constellation Leo, it is a remnant moon, the moonlight is dark, and the observation of meteor showers does not interfere much.
