With plans to move to the monarch's official residence on hold, King Charles may "never live" at Buckingham Palace!
It is reported that for the "foreseeable future", King Charles and Queen Camilla will only be able to live at Clarence Palace while in London due to the extensive renovation works underway at Buckingham Palace.
Buckingham Palace has been the Queen's official residence since the 19th century and the main residence of the late Queen until the coronavirus pandemic began, when the Queen moved to Windsor Castle for a more permanent residence. Charles and Queen Camilla's official residence in London is Clarence Palace, a short walk down the boulevard.
Buckingham Palace is currently undergoing a major 10-year, £369 million refurbishment that is not expected to be completed until 2027.
According to the Sunday Times, this meant that the king and queen had "no plans" to move from Clarence House to Buckingham Palace until the works were completed, but they would go there for some royal events.
During this time, when the King was in London, the royal flag would reportedly fly simultaneously at Buckingham Palace and Clarence Palace.
However, it added that there were also fears that Charles and Camilla might never move to Buckingham Palace.
Sources familiar with the king told the Daily Mail that he was "very comfortable" at Clarence Palace, with one of them adding: "He does not see Buckingham Palace as a viable future abode or that it is fit for the purposes of the modern world."
He felt that its maintenance was unsustainable, both from a cost and environmental point of view.
