When many of us think of royal couples for the first time, we usually think of Prince William and Kate, or King Charles and Queen Camilla, including Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.

But one of the most enduring marriages in the British royal family often escaped public attention, such as Princess Anne and her husband, Commander Timothy Lawrence.

On Monday, the determined husband supported his grieving wife as she followed her mother, and now that many people are interested in him, let's take a closer look at the couple's history together.

Who was Commander Timothy Lawrence, her second husband?

Naval Officer Timothy was a well-reasoned officer who first became famous in Northern Ireland.

Born in Camberwell, he studied at New Lighthouse Foundation School and Seven Oaks School, and later studied geography at Durham University College, where he received a Naval Scholarship.

Having spent an impressive few years in the Navy, he went on to serve as the Queen's attendant (the Queen's Special Military Adviser and Right Aid) from 1986 to 1989. It was in this position that he met the Queen's only daughter, Princess Anne, for the first time.

The two fell in love and began a relationship, but Anne was still with Mark until the letters in Anne's bag were stolen and leaked to the media, and the couple's relationship was made public.

The letters were leaked in April 1989, and about four months later, Anne and Mark officially announced their breakup.

When did Princess Anne and Timothy Lawrence get married?

In December 1992, the two had a private wedding attended by only 30 guests.

The couple said "I do" in Scotland because the rules at the time meant that the Anglican Church of England would not allow divorced people to remarry in church while their ex-spouse was still alive.

Anne was dressed in a simple white suit, and as she walked through the red carpet, she wore several white flowers in her hair. After the wedding, the couple appeared amid the cheers of 500 well-wishers.

Among the guests in attendance were the Queen, Princess Margaret and Peter, who was 15 at the time, as well as Zara, who was 11 at the time.

Just the same week as the wedding, Charles, then Prince of Wales, also announced his separation from Princess Diana, marking a period of great change in the stability of the royal family.

Are Princess Anne and Timothy Lawrence still together?

Although the couple doesn't often appear in the public eye, they are still often together. Last week, Timothy was photographed supporting his wife after the bad news of his wife's mother's death.

The couple lives happily between an apartment at St. James's Palace and a 700-acre park in Gloucestershire.

Because Anne has been committed to working as a member of the royal family, the couple is often involved in a variety of charitable and publicly promoted activities, with the Royal Princess alone providing funding to more than 300 charities, organisations and associations.

Currently, they are the longest married of living royal couples.
