The dorsal midline is brownish black, the back of the body has more hidden black fine horizontal placement, the head is gray, with some black spots, the inner corner of the eye is white, the cheeks have two fine black stripes, the jaw is yellow and white, the ventral surface of the body is milky white, the underside of the neck and the forelimbs are light brown, the limbs are slightly lighter than the back, there are also 2 or 3 short and blurry black horizontal, the tail is thick and round, the length is about 20-30 cm, there are obvious 6-8 black ring fine stripes on it, and the long hairs at the tip of the tail are black. The pups have significant horizontal stripes, relatively wide and long, and have 6 stripes on the tail.

There are three subspecies with different fur colors. The plateau subspecies of rabbits is sandy yellow on the back, light gray at the base of the dorsal hair, rusty brown in the upper part, and yellowish-white in the tip; the nominate subspecies of the rabbit is bluish gray on the back, the base of the dorsal hair is light gray, and the tip of the hair is black brown. Or the top of the head is grey with a few black spots. There are 2 thin horizontal stripes on the cheeks. The back of the body is light reddish brown, brownish yellow or silver gray, the whole body is dense and soft, the hair is thick like a felt, especially the hair on the abdomen is very long, the top of the head is gray, the color at the midline of the back is darker, often with a dark black color, and there are several dark black stripes on the back. Or yellowish white throughout; the cheeks have two fine black stripes, the chin is white; there are 6-7 faintly visible dark horizontal stripes on the waist and hips, and the tail coat color is similar to the back of the body.

Rabbits have several characteristics that distinguish them from other cats. Its feet are short, its hips are fatter, and its hair is long and thick. This makes it look particularly stocky and hairy. Hair changes with the seasons and is grayer and less flowery in winter. Its ears are low and it has a face that looks like an owl.
