Early life
Joseph Gordon-Levitt was born in 1981 in Los Angeles, California. His father was a press director at Radio Pacific KPFK-FM. Mother ran for the U.S. Congress for the Peace And Freedom Party in the 1970s; She met Levitt's father while working as a program director editor at KPFK-FM. Levitt attended Van Nuys High School and graduated in 1999.
Acting career
As a child, Levitte starred in the movies Big River Love, Baseball Angel, Emergency Stalking Order, and Ten Things I Hate About You. He played Tommy Solomon in the TV series Crooked Star Strikes the Earth.
Inception, Don Juan, Lincoln
Levitt studied at Columbia University, but dropped out in 2004 to pursue a career in acting again. Since then, he has starred in 500 Days with Summer, Inception, Heather, 50/50, Deadly Express, The Miracle of Santa Ana, Broome Brothers, Batman: The Dark Knight Rises, Pursuit, Ring Messenger, Lookout, Lincoln, Mysterious Skin, and Special Forces: Rise of the Cobra.
Levitt played Philip Petty in robert Zemeckis's film Walking in the Clouds (2015) and whistleblower Edward Snowden in Oliver Stone's snowden (2016). For his outstanding performances in 500 Days with Shamo and 50/50, he was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actor (In the Musical/Comedy category).

Levitt also founded the online production company HitRecord in 2004 and starred in his own TV series Start Shooting in January 2014, earning him prime-time Emmy Awards for outstanding creative achievements in the interactive media-social TV experience in the same year.
In 2013, Levitte directed, wrote and starred in the film Don Juan for the first time. He has previously directed and edited two short films, both released in 2010: Morgan's Rendezvous with Destiny and Morgan's 11th Rendezvous with Destiny: The Airship Zoo.
Personal life
In December 2014, Levitt married Tasha Macaulay, founder and CEO of the technology company Fellow Robots. They had two sons.
