In 2021, India will produce more than 900,000 tons.

Kumar believes that "overall, the macroeconomic situation is not good, the problem of 'economy of scale' is emerging, demand is stagnant or declining, and india's aquaculture industry is also prone to disease." "In 2021, the frequent occurrence of hepatosporium (EHP) patients is a major problem in the Shrimp Farming Industry in India. Many farms have lowered the seeding density, but the average size of the shrimp has not increased. Kumar said.
Kumar said that in 2022, some Indian farmers will switch to black tiger shrimp because the species can still grow in ponds infected with EHP, and the production of Black Tiger shrimp in India is expected to be around 50,000 tons in 2022.
In the long run, India remains the world's leading shrimp farmer and one of the main potential consumer markets. Kumar believes that India has great potential for coastal development, "brackish water area of up to 1.2 million hectares, but only 200,000 hectares of aquaculture area." India has a population of 1.3 billion, and with the development of e-commerce, shrimp consumption will grow from a very small base. At this stage, India's local shrimp consumption will gradually grow to 40,000 tons, and once it exceeds 100,000 tons, it will grow exponentially. ”
For the Chinese market, Kumar believes that Indian companies must diversify and export more Lead Shell (HOSO) products. "India has a transportation cost advantage, a Ecuadorian container to China costs $18,000-20,000, India only needs $5,000. If Ecuador is going to conquer the North American hull shrimp market, we will have to win the HOSO market in China. ”
