The 13th China Arts Festival, co-sponsored by the Hebei Provincial Government, opened in Beijing. In September 2019, the Department of Culture and Tourism of Gansu Province launched the creation and rehearsal of "Eight Steps of Sand", written by Yang Xiaowen and Zhou Qi, famous screenwriters of Gansu Province; Specially invited national first-level directors and experts with special government allowances of the State Council shall be appointed by the second group as the general director; Chen Daming, a famous composer and professor at Xi'an Conservatory of Music, served as a composer; Kang Aishi, a former national first-class actor of the Gansu Provincial Drama Theatre, an expert of the Special Government Allowance of the State Council, and the winner of the Plum Blossom Award for Chinese Drama Performance, Chang Guishun, a national first-class actor and winner of the "Golden Lion Award" of Chinese drama, and Qi Baoquan, a national first-class actor and winner of the Plum Blossom Award for Chinese Drama Performance, have joined forces again. The drama "Eight Steps of Sand" takes the "model of the times" - the true story of the "six old men" of the three generations of advanced groups in the eight-step sand forest farm in Gulang County as the material, and through depicting the "six old men" fighting against the desert in order to survive, and finally achieving harmonious coexistence between man and nature, casting an immortal monument of the model of the times. The drama ingeniously highlights the arduous struggle and unyielding efforts of the "six old men" in planting trees and controlling sand from the three dimensions of nature, history and life, so that the audience and the protagonist can feel the bitter, sour, sweet, moody and sad life situation in the process of hard work, and truly dissect the wind and bones and feelings of the simple and tenacious contemporary fools of the six old men.
In March 2021, the drama "Eight Steps of Sand" was listed by the Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the China Federation of Literature and Literature as one of the 50 Jinjing performances in the "Excellent Stage Art Works Exhibition and Performance Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China".
