Victoria's well-known attractions with poor water quality,

Visitors can only bring their own drinking water

Port Fairy Fairy is arguably one of Victoria's most recognisable attractions, attracting countless visitors with its stunning sea views and exquisite townscapes.

Despite the beautiful scenery of Port Fairy, the tourists who come here are not particularly satisfied, it has nothing to do with the environment, but because of the drinking water here...

Many people don't know that not all parts of Victoria have good water quality and can be drunk directly, and Port Fairy is known for its poor water quality.

Many people have said that the water here has a very strange smell... It's hard to swallow.

Over time, visitors to Port Fairy began to choose to bring their own drinking water.

Why does the water have a strange taste?

The reason is actually very simple, the mineral salts contained in the groundwater of Port Fairy and naturally occurring chemicals react, affecting the taste of the water.

Although Port Fairy's water is safe to drink, it contains more salinity, alkalinity and iron, and these ingredients also make the water here a certain corrosive.

Although it does not affect human health, it will greatly shorten the life of water heaters, washing machines, pipes and even kettles. And it comes with additional costs associated with buying bottled water or using a filtration system.

The problem has persisted for so long that local residents have become intolerable, with as many as 2,000 simultaneously signing petitions to improve local water quality by building a water pipeline from Otways to Port Fairy, which was sent to the Wannon Water Authority's office in Warrnambool in July.

Although Port Fairy is still a large number of tourists every year, water quality problems have indeed reduced the number of tourists to a certain extent.

After research, it was found that if the water quality here can be improved, it will bring more than $47 million in environmental, health, economic and other aspects of the region, so the government finally moved!

A$33 million project,

The goal is to improve water quality

Just a few days ago, Victoria's Wannon Water Authority finally announced that it would launch a $33 million project to improve water quality in Port Fairy, a popular tourist destination in southwest Victoria, and its neighbouring heywood and Portland areas.

If the plan is successful, visitors to Port Fairy will no longer have to bring their own drinking water.

This time, however, the water authority's plan differed from the content of the people's petition, who thought that building a water pipeline would end the problem.

In fact, this pipeline does not help much to improve local water quality.

The Water Authority believes that the treatment of local groundwater may be a feasible solution, which can not only have an immediate effect on improving water quality, but also reduce the overall cost a lot.

However, it is uncertain how long it will take to really improve water quality, and only the first 16 million funds are in place, and if the Water Authority can ensure that the government replenishes the remaining $17 million gap, it is believed that the water quality in these three towns will soon change.

If the Water Authority is asked to come up with $33 million in its own ownership, then water quality improvements will have to wait for some time, at least until the upgrade of the local water purification plant is completed.

In other words, whether we can see the changes in the water quality of these towns in a short period of time depends on whether the Victorian government is willing to pay money.

At last

One of Victoria's most well-known attractions has been affected by poor water quality for a long time, and although it is not harmful to the human body, it tastes strange and can also cause corrosion effects on various equipment.

I hope that the government can solve this problem as soon as possible, so that local residents will no longer have to worry about water quality!
