Humingbird, a uk-based two-wheeler maker, has launched a new battery-powered folding electric bike called the Flax. The car creates a unique frame made of plant fibers, and it is the use of plant fiber frames that makes this two-wheeler weigh only 22.7 pounds, about 10.3kg. Hummingbird claims that this Flax is currently the lightest electric bike in the world.
Due to the gradual application of carbon fiber materials to the field of two-wheeled, it is not uncommon for two-wheeled vehicles to achieve lightweight, and many electric vehicles have controlled their weight below 30 pounds (about 13.6 kg) in the case of batteries and motors.
And before the Hummingbird Flax launched, the lightest bike we'd ever heard of was the Cannondale SuperSix EVO Neo 1, which weighed 24.9 pounds (about 11.2kg), more than two pounds heavier than the Flax (about 1kg). Although it doesn't sound very light, the weight gap is obvious in the need to tow a bicycle up and down the stairs.
Hummingbird also introduced that its frame is made entirely of flax plant fibers, which is also very strong while being environmentally friendly. And the frame is not the only highlight of this car, this car is also equipped with a 250W motor and a built-in capacity of 158Wh battery, so that the maximum speed of this car to about 25km/h, the maximum endurance of about 50km. While these performance figures aren't outstanding, they're short enough for commutes.
