Early life

James McAvoy was born in 1979 in Glasgow, Scotland, England. McAvoy later starred in the crime comedy film Filth (2013), for which he won the British Independent Film Award for Best Actor. In 2016, he played Kevin Wendell Cram in Nate Shyamalan's Split, a man with 23 different personalities that earned critical acclaim and later played the role again in Mr. Glass. Since 2019, he has been playing Lord Asriel Belacqua in the magic drama Dark Matter.

Personal life

During the filming of Shameless, McAvoy began a relationship with Anne-Marie Duff and married in November 2006. They have a son. In May 2016, the couple announced their divorce decision.

Since 2017, McAvoy has been dating Lisa Liberati, an American production assistant he met on the set of Split.

After McAvoy won the Baccavoy Award for "Rising Star", his estranged father told the Sunday Mirror that he would love to get in touch with his son but didn't know how to contact him. Although he hadn't read the article, McAvoy heard about it and ignored it.

In a 2011 interview with Sky News, McAvoy said he believed British filmmakers were disparaging and simplifying their work in order to please American audiences. He has previously called 3D movies a "waste of money" and accused studios of using the effect to get more money from moviegoers.
