The ranking of the scoring guards before the start of the 2022-23 season has been evaluated by the American sports professional agency, and then take a look at the 25 best scoring guards of the 2022-23 year, the list is voted by the Rating Panel of the American Basketball Website.
25th: Jaden Ive (Detroit Pistons)
Jaden Ive's position is a bit disappointing because he had a lot of potential when he first came to the NBA, and expected to be a shooting guard who scores efficiently, grabs rebounds and focuses on defense, he needs to adjust his jump shot and learn how to attack the basket at different speeds so that he can unleash his full potential.
Ivey's first season with the Detroit Pistons showed incredible ball-holding speed, a huge vertical jumping ability, and his strength and toughness were outstanding. Unfortunately, his summer league performances were very short, ending in less than two games as an ankle injury forced him to miss the last few games of the offseason.
Still, Ive was impressive in his debut, taking advantage of 14 shots and scoring 20 points, six rebounds and six assists. In his second game, he also looked explosive, although he only played five minutes because in that short playing time he had scored 11 points. Ive has a lot of potential and has the opportunity to be one of the NBA's best pointing guards in the coming years.
24th: Caris Leville (Cleveland Cavaliers)
Caris LeVert is a fantastic scorer, though his performances last season were somewhat erratic. In 19 games against the Cleveland Cavaliers at the end of the season, he averaged 13.6 points and 3.9 assists per game and shot an admirable 43.5 percent from the field.
Now his body is back in good health and he is able to attend training camp and pre-season. If Cleveland gives up the chance to re-sign Colin Sexton, it will give LeVert a bigger chance to improve his stats. Whether as a substitute or a starter, there's a chance to play alongside All-Star guard Darius Garland.
23rd place: Norman Powell (Los Angeles Clippers)
Norman Powell is the league's potential starting point guard for the 2022-23 season and will play an extremely important role in the upcoming season. Powell averaged 19.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and shot 41.9 percent from the field last season. He ranked 95th in the NBA as a spot-set shooter in a sample of 40 games for the Portland Trail Blazers.
Powell's biggest flaw as a player is that he is too slow to defend, and if he can play alongside defensive strongmen such as Leonard Leonard and George, his shortcomings may not be so obvious. Powell could be one of the league's top role players in the 2022-23 season.
22nd: Colin Sexton (Cleveland Cavaliers)
A knee injury led Colin Sexton to an early end to his 2021-2022 season, after playing just 11 games and averaging 16.0 points and 3.3 rebounds per game, but shooting just 24.4 percent from three-point range. Still, Sexton played confidently, whether it was a three-pointer from the outside or a close-range breakout, he could attack at will and work the defensive end. Overall, he is a reliable player who can make an impact on the pitch.
21st: Jordan Clarkson (Utah Jazz)
Jordan Clarkson, the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year two seasons ago, saw his performance decline last year, plummeting to 31.8 percent from three-point range, and he averaged 16.0 points and 3.5 rebounds per game between 2021 and 2022. However, his prospects for 2022-23 are indeed a bit tricky, with no current question of which team he will join or what role he might play in his new team.
20th: Alex Caruso (Chicago Bulls)
Alex Caruso may be the only defensive point guard on the roster, and the 28-year-old is an active player, though he averaged just 7.4 points per game last season. Caruso shot 33.3 percent from the outside in 2021-2022, but he was even better defensively. He made his debut for the Chicago Bulls last season, averaging 1.7 steals per game last year and 3.0 steals per 100 games.
19th: Seth Curry (Philadelphia 76ers)
As a minor role player on the court, performance is often worth key moments, and Seth Curry has ranked second in the NBA in three-point shooting percentage over the past four seasons, with at least 500 three-point attempts to shoot, with a staggering 44.2 percent conversion rate. Curry may not be able to help much on the defensive end other than shooting and scoring.
18th: Bogdan Bogdanovic (Atlanta Hawks)
Bogdan Bogdanovic is a confident shooting streak, averaging 15.1 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game between 2021 and 2022, in addition to 1.1 steals. What's more, he was one of the league's best spot-set shooters last season. Bogdanovic is likely to play off the bench in the 2021-2022 season and will provide the powerful Hawks with significant firepower on the bench.
17th: Ludot (Oklahoma Thunder)
Originally conceived as an energetic defensive guard, Ludot has improved his offensive performance by leaps and bounds since he joined the NBA, now averaging 17.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game and shooting 40.4 percent from the field. Still, he's still unstable offensively, and while he has good long arms and a tenacious defensive style, he's still a long way from being a well-rounded player.
16th: Anvernie Simmons (Portland Trail Blazers)
After three mundane seasons, Anverni Simmons exploded in his fourth season, averaging 17.3 points and 3.9 assists per game on 44.3 percent shooting and 40.5 percent from the field. He showed his true prowess between 2021 and 2022, scoring at least 30 points in seven games and scoring 43 points in a game in early January, shooting 61.9 percent. With the departure of CJ McCollum, Simmons is expected to be at the heart of the team alongside Damien Lillard and play the best season of his career in 2022-23.
15th: Jaylen Green (Houston Rockets)
As the second pick in the 2021 draft, Jaylen Green didn't disappoint in his rookie season, averaging 17.3 points and 3.4 rebounds per game and shooting 42.6 percent from the field. Since the end of February, Green's scoring has risen significantly, averaging 20.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. As the situation continues, Green has the potential to become a superstar in the League.
No. 14: Gary Trent Jr. (Toronto Raptors)
Gary Trent Jr. has excellent follow-up skills, he's one of the best shooters in the league right now, and he's also good at singles. Over the past three seasons, Trent has averaged 18.3 points and 1.7 steals per game, shooting 54.6 percent from the field. For performances like Trent's between 2021 and 2022, he's an underrated no-ball defender as he finished fourth in the league with 122 steals last season.
No. 13: Klay Thompson (Golden State Warriors)
Clay Thompson's performance between 2021 and 2022 has been impressive, with he suffering several fatal leg injuries in a row that kept him off the pitch for years. However, he was able to play his own value in the NBA Finals. While Thompson's return has been a bit erratic, especially in the playoffs, he's arguably the greatest spot-set shooter of all time, averaging 20.4 points and 3.9 rebounds in the regular season and shooting 38.5 percent from the field. He averaged 19.0 points and 1.1 steals per game in the playoffs, shooting the same percentage as in the regular season.
12th place: Tyler Hilo (Miami Heat)
Taylor Heroo struggled in the playoffs due to injuries, and the Kentucky-based sharpshooter seemed to be starting to sink. In his first 13 playoff games in 2022, he averaged 25.4 percent from the field. In the regular season, he averaged 20.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game on the bench, shooting 39.9 percent from three-point range. Due to poor defense and dismal playoff performances, Hiro's performance in the 2022-23 season may not be as hot.
No. 11: Jordan Poole (Golden State Warriors)
Jordan Poole has performed well in the 2021-2022 season and is arguably one of the best contenders for the fastest-improving players. However, he has little defensive ability and his offensive ability is excellent. Last season, Poole had 18.5 points and 4.0 assists in 76 games, shooting 36.4 percent from the field and 92.5 percent from the free throws. The 23-year-old Poole should have more success in the upcoming season, as gary Payton II will be given more playing opportunities after his departure.
10th place: Desmond Bain (Memphis Grizzlies)
Desmond Bain has been one of the league's premier three-point shooters since entering the NBA and becoming the Memphis Grizzlies, and he has also shown good resilience on the defensive end. In two seasons in the league, Bain shot 43.5 percent from the outside. In addition, between 2021 and 2022, Bain ranked 10th in the NBA in jump shooting percentage. He averaged 18.2 points and 1.2 steals per game.
9th place: Thales Maxi (Philadelphia 76ers)
On the night of the 2020 draft, Teres Maxi dropped all the way to the 21st pick. Maxi, who has lightning speed, is not only able to shoot three points, but also has the ability to shoot at the middle. Capable of shooting 48.4 percent from 12 games and averaging 20.8 points and 3.9 assists per game, Maxie will achieve significant feats in 2022-23 as an underrated defender, so he's at number 9 on the list.
8th place: CJ McCollum (New Orleans Pelicans)
After eight successful seasons with the Trail Blazers, McCollum restarted his career with the New Orleans Pelicans, who could shoot three-pointers and score from mid-range shooting. He averaged 24.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 1.3 steals per game for the Pelicans, shooting 49.3 percent from the field and 39.4 percent from outside the three-point line. He helped the Pelicans quickly become a playoff-level team, and he showed his outstanding leadership.
7th Place: De chantai Murray (Atlanta Hawks)
De Joante Murray will be paired with Trae Young to form the Hawks' new backcourt combination after being traded by the San Antonio Spurs. Murray is a great rebounder and offensive initiator as he averages 21.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 9.2 assists per game, including a 2.0 steals per game that leads the league, and the defensive player will help improve the Hawks.
6th Place: Bradley Beale (Washington Wizards)
Bradley Beal is a recognized point guard, but last season's performance was disappointing. After averaging more than 30 points per game in the first two seasons, Beal finished with just 23.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 6.6 assists in the 2021-2022 season. His outside shots were also terrible, with Beal shooting 30.0 percent from outside the three-point line.
5th place: Anthony Edwards (Minnesota Timberwolves)
Anthony Edwards is one of the most explosive point guards in NBA history, and he has the potential to top the scoring list sometime in the next few years, he is an extremely talented scorer, and he has proven it in two years of NBA games. Between 2021 and 2022, Edwards averaged 21.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game, shooting 44.1 percent and 35.7 percent from the field.
4th place: Zach Lavin (Chicago Bulls)
Between 2021 and 2022, when Lonzo Ball and Caruso made their first NBA playoffs and led the Bulls into the playoffs, Zach Lavin overcame injuries and a lack of help in the backcourt. LaVine averaged 24.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.5 assists last season. As a full-fledged All-Star shooting guard, he has proven himself to contribute to the team with solid jump shots and excellent athleticism.
3rd place: Jaylen Brown (Boston Celtics)
Over the years, Jaylen Brown and Jason Tatum have been too stylistically similar to even coexist. Between 2021 and 2022, Brown averaged 23.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game, shooting 47.3 percent from the field, including 35.8 percent from three-point range. As one of the top border guards, he still needs improvements in possession and Brown is expected to have more of the same high-level performances in 2022-23.
2nd place: Donovan Mitchell (Utah Jazz)
A three-time All-Star, Mitchell, like any top point guard, can score from outside the three-point line, mid-range or near the basket. Last season, Mitchell averaged 25.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.5 steals per game, shooting 44.8 percent from the field, providing tremendous value at both ends of the court.
1st Place: Devon Booker (Phoenix Suns)
Booker, who has averaged around 25 to 26 points per game since the 2017-18 season, led the Suns into the best regular season game in franchise history, only to miss out on the championship. When the 2022-23 season comes, Booker still has a chance to be number one in the league as the NBA's best pointing guard.
