As the saying goes, day and night defense, family thieves are difficult to prevent. On August 10, Brazilian police found 16 recently stolen works of art in Rio de Janeiro, with a total value of a staggering 960 million yuan. Surprisingly, the theft was orchestrated by the thief's own daughter.
According to reports, the stolen works of art include works by famous Brazilian modernist artists Doammaral and Di Cavalcanti, which have high collection value. Their owners are an 82-year-old man whose husband was a collector and dealer of art.
According to the police, the theft was actually a "family scam" that had been planned and implemented for a long time. First, in January 2020, a person claiming to be a fortune tells the old man that her daughter is seriously ill and in danger. Subsequently, the elderly were asked to pay a total of about 5 million reais, or about 6.6 million yuan, in two weeks, to give her daughter so-called "spiritual treatment." At the same time, the daughter, while urging her mother to pay, dismissed the family's servants so that her accomplices could enter the house to steal the artwork.
After investigation, the police found that some of the artworks had been sold, and some were still hidden under the suspect's bed. At present, the police have caught several thieves, who may face charges of theft, extortion and so on.
