Xu Da (1332-1385), the younger of Zhu Yuanzhang, the Ming Emperor. In 1353, Zhu Yuanzhang, who had just joined the rebel army, returned to his hometown to recruit troops, and Xu Da officially joined the army to begin his life, when he was only 22 years old.

Although Xu Da was born as a military general, he was humble and studious. This is a valuable point, especially in the late Yuan and early Ming dynasties, most of the rebel generals were from a big old and rough background, such as Chang Yuchun, Li Wenzhong, Liao Yongzhong and others. Although these fierce generals have never studied, they have all learned a practical combat skill in the war, and their merits are innumerable. The long-term field battle caused one after another to be grumpy, drawing swords at every turn, and the soldiers and horses under the influence of the commander were also arrogant and fierce generals.

For example, the god of war in the same period often encountered spring temper and bravery, and officially recorded the experience of killing and descending soldiers several times, which had a very bad impact on the developing Zhu Yuanzhang troops. Zhu Yuanzhang also reminded him several times, but Chang Yuchun basically did not take it seriously, and Zhu Yuanzhang was already a little dissatisfied with him at that time, but it was inconvenient to attack in view of the use of people. As the saying goes, "killing is ominous", and later Chang Yuchun died young at the age of 40, and there are many Kanyu masters who say that it is caused by retribution. Even if he did not die early, I am afraid that after the founding of the people's Republic of China, Zhu Yuanzhang would have to find a reason to kill him.

In a word, such a person makes the Lord never rest assured!

When we look back at Xu Da, unlike the fierce generals of the same period, Xu Da's army was strictly disciplined and did not commit any crimes against the people. So much so that Zhu Yuanzhang boasted that he said: "The imperial army is heavy and disciplined, and those who defeat and conquer and gain the body of the general are like the great general Da. "It means that the first person who has achieved battle merit and unified the army is none other than Xu Da.

Xu Da's life is humble and low-key, not greedy for money and lustful, and has no bad habits in his spare time. He often read the soldier's book and battle strategy alone all night, and he could later write a war book without reading a book, which was simply a miracle at that time! Even the erudite Liu Bowen admired him very much, and could be said to be a very perfect self-cultivation person. Later, Xu Da's eldest daughter married Zhu Di as his wife, and was the famous Empress Xu in history.

02 Know what to do

In 1368, Zhu Yuanzhang established the Ming Dynasty. Xu Da was given the title of Duke of Wei, the first of the Six Founding Dukes, and the scenery was unlimited for a while.

Xu Da knew that his military exploits were not only envied by Zhu Yuanzhang, but even the ministers of the DPRK and China were jealous of him. So I became more cautious. Every spring, he led the army to go out on a campaign, and after returning to the dynasty at the end of autumn and winter, he handed over the marshal's seal to the imperial court for the first time, and did not dare to delay for a moment. Even so, danger was looming toward him.

[Ming History] Record: One day, Zhu Yuanzhang saw that Xu Da was still living in a small house. So he invited Xu Da to drink, and Xu Da was drunk and let people carry him into the dragon bed of his old mansion of King Wu, and then quietly observed behind the screen. An hour later, Xu Da woke up violently, and when he saw himself lying on the dragon bed in the mansion before Zhu Yuanzhang ascended the throne, he slapped himself repeatedly and scolded himself for being damned, how dare he usurp the dragon bed?

Zhu Yuanzhang walked out from behind the screen with satisfaction and said, "No problem, our family is trying to give you a house!" Xu Da lian lian cheng sincerely refused, and later Zhu Yuanzhang built a large mansion from the side and gave it to Xu Da, and the royal approval at the door was: Great merit.

However, li wenzhong, blue jade and other worldly famous generals who were heroes of the same dynasty did not know how to advance and retreat, and they all provoked the disaster of killing themselves.

03 Do not form a faction

After the establishment of the Ming Dynasty, the Huaixi faction headed by Li Shanchang and the Eastern Zhejiang faction led by Liu Bowen were quickly formed, and the imperial court ministers also occupied the throne one after another, beginning a struggle between the two camps for nearly 30 years.

In addition to Li Shanchang and Liu Bowen personally participating in the struggle, the Huaixi faction also introduced the agent Hu Weiyong, while the Zhejiang eastern faction introduced Yang Xian. The struggle between the two sides became more intense, and because of Xu Da's outstanding merits, Hu Weiyong wooed Xu Da several times, and Xu Da repeatedly said that he was sick and shirked. Hu Weiyong later went so far as to bribe Xu Da's housekeeper to frame him, and Xu Da also recognized him.

Xu Da personally warned Zhu Yuanzhang that Hu Weiyong's heart was not right, and he was not the talent of the prime minister. A few years later, Hu Weiyong did indeed pull together gangs and factions to plot rebellion, but was instantly destroyed by taizu tuan. At this time, Taizu believed more and more in Xu Da's vision.

In the later period, Zhu Yuanzhang murdered more than 200,000 founding heroes through the Hu Weiyong case, the empty seal case, and the Blue Jade case.

Later practice proved that Xu Da was very correct for not participating in the faction. During the Hongwu period, all the founding heroes except Xu Da, Tang and a limited number of people, all the other heroes intentionally or unintentionally participated in factional struggles and were eliminated by Taizu.

04 Good luck

Xu Da was often seriously ill in front of Taizu (he himself was indeed injured due to years of conquest), subtly convincing Taizu that his body had no remorse.

Moreover, there were two insignificant Northern Expeditions later, and Xu Da consciously or unconsciously compressed the battle records of his own headquarters, so that the achievements of other generals were highlighted. In this way, he deliberately showed his clumsiness, one was to let other generals reduce their jealousy of him, and more importantly, to let Zhu Yuanzhang know that Xu Da's ability was not the legendary victory in every battle, and to reduce Zhu Yuanzhang's vigilance against him.

Throughout his life, Xu Da was resolute and courageous, persistent and strategic, turned to the north and south, ruled the army strictly, made high merits, and was the first among the founding heroes of the Ming Dynasty. Hongwu died in February of the eighteenth year. Posthumously crowned King of Zhongshan. Zhu Yuanzhang praised it as the "Great Wall".
