In the past few days, in order to cope with the provocations of the Americans and Taiwan independence forces, the People's Liberation Army has launched an unprecedented military exercise in the waters around Taiwan, demonstrating China's national and military prestige, and making countless Chinese people raise their eyebrows and breathe a sigh of relief!
In fact, in the more than 70 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Taiwan Strait has been in constant danger, and there have been six "Taiwan Strait crises", either because of the insufficient strength of our army or because the time is not yet ripe, leaving behind all kinds of regrets.
Next, we will review these six "Taiwan Strait crises."
The first: the Battle of the Golden Gate
In October 1949, after the founding of New China, the officers and men of the People's Liberation Army sanye also launched a campaign to liberate Xiamen and Kinmen in Fujian.
The troops of Chiang Kai-shek's army in Xiamen and Gulangyu Island had become birds of fright and were soon retaken by our army, and Kinmen was a chain of islands off the coast of Fujian, including several islands such as kinmen and other islands, across the sea from Xiamen.
At that time, the People's Liberation Army only had a strong army, but there was no support from the navy and air force, and it also lacked the conditions and experience to cross Hayden Island, so it was very difficult to complete the operation of crossing Hayden Island.
However, because they were too optimistic, the officers and men of our army hastily launched the Kinmen Deng Island Operation without preparing enough transport ships and waiting for the best tidal conditions; as a result, after more than 9,000 people of the vanguard troops landed on the island, the follow-up troops could not keep up, and they were surrounded by the superior kuomintang forces on Kinmen Island, and the Kinmen Campaign was declared a failure.
In April 1950, Chairman Mao issued an order to liberate Taiwan, with Su Yu as the commander-in-chief, formed 150,000 elite troops, equipped with more than 30 air force combat units, and the navy also prepared enough landing ships.
However, at this time, the Korean War broke out, and the United States brazenly sent the Seventh Fleet into the Taiwan Strait, resulting in the indefinite suspension of our army's liberation of Taiwan.
Second: The 93rd Artillery Battle and the liberation of Yijiangshan Island
After the end of the Korean War, our army began to brew a new round of operational plans in the Taiwan Strait, first launching a fierce shelling of Kinmen on September 3, 1954, which opened the precedent of "shelling Kinmen".
On January 18, 1955, Zhang Aiping was ordered to command the battle to liberate Yijiangshan Island, which was the first time that the army, navy and air force coordinated operations, and successfully recovered Yijiangshan Island on the same day. Subsequently, Jiang Jun on Dachen Island also fled in the wind.
Third: Battle of the Golden Gate
On August 23, 1958, our army launched an unprecedented fierce shelling of Kinmen, known in history as the "823 Artillery Battle", the shelling lasted for more than 40 days, firing a total of 500,000 shells, deputy commanders of the Kinmen Defense Department Ji Xingwen, Zhao Jiajun, Zhang Jie and other generals were killed, tens of thousands of people were injured, and a large number of warships were sunk and injured.
The US Sixth Fleet rushed from the Persian Gulf to provide support, but it was also frightened by the artillery fire of our army and did not dare to shoot, revealing its "paper tiger" essence.
At the same time as the artillery battle, a fierce air battle was also staged over the coast of Kinmen and Fujian; the Kuomintang Air Force relied on modern fighters supported by the United States to constantly harass the mainland's territorial airspace, and our air force skillfully laid out a "ten-sided ambush in the air" to deal a severe blow to the invading enemy.
It is worth mentioning that the Battle of Kinmen was the first appearance of infrared guided missiles in the history of world war, and the first time the American Sidewinder missile was applied in actual combat, it was captured by our army, providing materials for the scientific research of our military's modern equipment.
Fourth: Battle of Eighty-Six
The background of this Taiwan Strait crisis is that the mainland has just suffered three years of natural disasters, so chiang kai-shek saw the "dawn of counter-offensive," so he formulated the "National Light Plan," but when he solicited great assistance from the United States, it was vetoed by the Americans.
Chiang Kai-shek was not satisfied, so he constantly sent warships to harass the coast, and our navy fought back with small and broad, among which the naval battle in the southern Fujian sea on August 6, 1965, was the most intense; our army sank the two modern destroyers of the Kuomintang "Jianmen" and "Zhangjiang" with miniaturized torpedo boats and corvettes, and more than 170 people, including Hu Jiaheng, commander of the Second Fleet of the Kuomintang Navy, were killed, and 33 other people, including Lieutenant Colonel Wang Yunshan of the "Jianmen," were captured, which is known in history as the "Battle of The Eighty-Six Seas."
Fifth Time: Preventing Lee Teng-hui from Being Re-elected "President"
During the period of the rule of Chiang Kai-shek and Chiang Ching-kuo's father and son, although Taiwan had a long-term confrontation with the mainland, it always recognized "one China." However, Chiang Ching-kuo misleaded people in his later years, making Lee Teng-hui the heir and pushing Taiwan to the brink of danger.
As soon as Lee Teng-hui came to power, he revealed the face of "Taiwan independence," constantly "de-Sinicized," and negated the hard-won "1992 Consensus," which was strongly opposed by the Chinese people.
In 1995, Lee Teng-hui vainly attempted to be re-elected "president" and constantly created momentum, and the arrogance of The Taiwan independence elements on the island was unprecedentedly arrogant. In order to deter Taiwan independence elements and prevent Lee Teng-hui from being elected "president," the Second Artillery Unit of the People's Liberation Army conducted a missile test firing exercise in the Taiwan Strait.
In mid-August, the PLA conducted another joint naval and air operations and maritime blockade exercise in the East China Sea.
At that time, our army's army, navy, and air force had initially realized modernization and had the ability to liberate Taiwan, and many officers and men participating in the exercise also wrote suicide notes, ready to be directly upgraded from exercises to combat at any time!
However, at this crucial moment, a traitor told Lee Teng-hui about our army's bottom line, thus making the "Taiwan independence" clique have no fear, and finally allowing Lee Teng-hui to succeed.
The Sixth Time: Countering Lee Teng-hui's "Two-State Theory"
After the mainland regained Hong Kong and Macao in 1997 and 1999, the idea of "one country, two systems" attracted the attention of the people of the whole world, including Taiwan, and at the same time aroused the fear of "Taiwan independence elements." Lee Teng-hui, in an interview with the German news media, brazenly overturned the previous "one country theory" and openly put forward the "two-state theory" of "one country on one side," thus once again arousing cross-strait tensions.
In order to warn the Taiwan independence forces, the Plakmen Held a large-scale military exercise in the Taiwan Strait area; special forces and amphibious reconnaissance teams drawn from the Beijing Military Region, the Jinan Military Region, and the Shenyang Military Region assembled in the mountainous areas of central Shandong to conduct landing special operations; at the same time, the Nanjing Military Region and the Guangzhou Military Region's army, navy, and air force, the Second Artillery Corps, and the reserve forces also held large-scale joint sea crossing exercises of various arms along the coast.
However, at this time, a major earthquake broke out in Taiwan, and in order to sympathize with the Taiwan compatriots, the People's Liberation Army stopped further military operations.
Now, after more than 20 years, both national strength and military strength, Chinese mainland have developed rapidly, and they are fully capable of completely ending the ambitions of "Taiwan independence elements." If the "Taiwan independence elements" insist on going their own way, they will certainly pay a heavy price!
