The director chose Zhang Shaolin, who is not only the group director of "Three Kingdoms", responsible for the "Southern Expedition and Northern War", but also a lucky general, and most of the director's works have won awards.
CCTV attaches great importance to it, and Zhang Shaolin does not dare to be sloppy after receiving the task, so he immediately sent several assistant directors and began nationwide casting.
The characters of "Water Margin" can probably be divided into 3 files.
The first is the five main actors, Song Jiang, Lin Chong, Lu Zhishen, Wu Song, Li Kui, and Pan Jinlian, who are extremely heavy in the original work.
The second is the Thirty-Six Heavenly Stars, such as Wu Yong, Lu Junyi, etc., who are slightly lighter but indispensable characters.

Interestingly, in the second file, there are many actors in the "Southern Expedition and Northern War" in "Three Kingdoms", who do not play much in "Three Kingdoms" and have a mediocre performance, but in "Water Margin", they are reborn and shine.

Played Meng You in "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" and Ruan Xiaoqi in "Water Margin".

If it were not for the fact that the Liangshan brothers died too many at his hands, it is estimated that the human design would be more pleasing.
4. Zhang Yakun
He played Zhang Liao in "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" and Zhang Shun in "Water Margin".
There are 3 versions of Zhang Liao in "Three Kingdoms", namely Xu Shaohua, Zhang Yekun and Wang Weiguo.
Zhang Yekun appears less and has the lowest sense of existence, because his face is thin and his body is too thin, and he cannot support the title of "Zhang Liao" fierce general at all, if it is not subtitled, he will not be recognized at all.
However, the performance in "Water Margin" is very outstanding, completely playing the "white stripe in the waves", especially the scene where Fang La was finally persuaded to surrender and was shot on the water gate, which is simply tearful.
5. Wang Guanghui
Played Cao Rui in "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" and Yan Qing in "Water Margin".

However, this character is relatively thin, and the impression is not deep, and the only thing that shines may be the heroic appearance.
However, in "Water Margin", Yan Qing, played by Wang Guanghui, is extremely dazzling, handsome and versatile, loyal and understanding, and even the world's first beautiful woman Li Shishi has been hooked by him.
Wang Guanghui once said that when filming in those years, he watched the original work countless times, almost to the point of almost memorizing it, although it was only a small supporting role, but he was thinking about the role every day, his eyes, speech, demeanor, and even walking were trying to conform to the original work, and it may be this hard work that created the most classic and unforgettable Yan Qing.
On the other hand, Yan Yikuan in the new version of "Water Margin", although the appearance value is higher, it always feels superficial, lacks connotation, and does not have too much flashing point.
Wang Guanghui is a very unfortunate actor, according to common sense, he should be a hit, but after that, the response was mediocre, and he shot a lot of scenes and was always tepid.
6. Wang Weiguo
Played Zhang Liao in "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" and Lu Junyi in "Water Margin".
