This team was originally the 60th Army of the Nationalist Army, and after the outbreak of the Lugou Bridge Incident in 1937, the 60th Army was born in Yunnan, so many of the soldiers in this team were Yunnan people. In the War of Resistance Against Japan, the task of the 60th Army was to defend the south of Yunnan, and during this period, it created a miracle of defensive campaigns, and for five years of town defense, it did not lose an inch of land, and the Japanese army was resisted outside the gate of the country.

In October 1948, the 60th Army was sent to the Northeast Battlefield, endured 11 years of the 60th Army, and finally could not bear it, under the leadership of the commander Zeng Zesheng, the uprising, joined the people's ranks, and became the 50th Army of the People's Liberation Army. In the subsequent War of Liberation, the 50th Army, under the leadership of Zeng Zesheng, was invincible and directly hit Chengdu, Sichuan, fiercely attacking the main force of the Nationalist army, and at the same time, it also made important contributions to our army's victory in the Liberation War.
In 1950, the Korean War broke out, and the 50th Army was subsequently assigned to the newly established "Northeast Border Defense Army" structure, in the plan, the 50th Army was reorganized as an artillery unit and should not be included in the volunteer order, but with the deepening of the Korean War, the plan of the 50th Army was also changed.
On October 24, Zeng Zesheng received an order from his superiors to immediately stop the reorganization task, cross the Yalu River, and participate in the first battle to resist the United States and aid Korea. The 50th Army, which received the task, immediately carried out the order and rushed to the Korean battlefield as quickly as possible; when it first joined the Korean battlefield, because of insufficient preparations, the 50th Army did not show its skills, and even did not complete the combat task many times.
At noon on October 29, when the 50th Army received the task to reach the designated combat site, most of the enemy army had been eliminated by friendly forces, and in the second campaign in November and February, the 50th Army did not show dazzling results, and even became a crane tail unit in the volunteer army, and this was because the 50th Army was blocked by the enemy, the bridge was damaged, coupled with the lack of concentration, the 50th Army failed to complete the battle plan, the battle plan was disjointed, and the combat capability of the 50th Army was greatly underestimated.

After seeing such a situation, the military commander Zeng Zesheng and the political commissar Xu Wenlie were shocked in their hearts, and they deeply realized that the 50th Army must make changes, so Zeng Zesheng and the two applied to the Volunteer Army Headquarters, and the 50th Army stopped fighting for a week.
During this week, they had to carry out self-criticism and ideological rectification, and it was precisely because of this decision that the 50th Army rekindled its fighting spirit, threw itself into the Korean battlefield with enthusiasm, and finally stood out in the Korean battlefield.
On January 3, 1951, the Volunteer Army Command received the news that the American Army was about to retreat from Seoul, the Volunteer Army Command immediately made a decision, dispatched the 39th Army and the 50th Army to the line with the American Army, the 50th Army received the task, rushed to the combat site as quickly as possible, and it took only 20 minutes to crush the US troops responsible for blocking, the defeated Us troops fled in a hurry, and the remaining British Royal Tank Battalion became the main target of the Volunteer Army. Relying on advanced weapons to bombard our army, the British army launched more than 10 rounds of attacks, and in the face of wave after wave of artillery fire, the 50th Army did not have the slightest fear and always held its position.
In desperation, the British army had to change the combat strategy, they switched to tank attack, wanted to directly crush the volunteer position, the soldiers who held the position, only light weapons in their hands, but they still did not flinch, tried again and again, and finally found that the explosive pack and the blasting canister could blow up the British tank, just in this way, the volunteers insisted for 3 hours, and in these three hours, the 31 tanks that the British army was proud of were all blown up, and in this battle, the title of the 50th Army resounded throughout the volunteer team.
By the time of the Fourth Campaign, Ridgway had been appointed commander of the U.S. Eighth Army, and Ridgway was also a man of real ability.
