German female diplomat in Brazil killed her husband and was arrested!
Singapore's Straits Times reported that a German female diplomat was arrested in Brazil on charges of killing her husband.
Diplomats have immunity and are not subject to the criminal jurisdiction of the host State. The German diplomat was arrested by the Brazilian police, perhaps on the initiative of the German government to revoke her diplomatic immunity.
If the case takes place inside the German Embassy in Brazil, the Brazilian police will only enter the embassy to investigate and arrest the suspect if the German side requests it. Otherwise, Germany would have dealt with it itself, because the embassy was internally German territory.
If it happened outside the embassy, the Brazilian police had the power to investigate directly and arrest the German diplomat on the spot. However, she had diplomatic immunity, and the Brazilian police could only hand her over to the German government and extradite her back to Germany for trial.
