The fish is actually a giant sea bass (grouper) caught by an unnamed Queensland man while fishing on North Strabroke Island on Monday (1 August).
The man said:
Groupers typically live between 250 and 600 metres underwater and are caught about 40 kilometres from Point Lookout on North Strabroke Island. I put a lot of effort into that. I've never tried a creature of this size by a man towing such a large creature from the deck of a very slippery ship, which definitely doesn't sound like the easiest task.
