As we all know, the U disk is our Chinese invention patent, its patent owner China Langke Company, but also let the American PNY brand pay a huge patent license fee of 10 million US dollars.
After 20 years, solid-state drives are becoming more and more popular, and fast and can be installed mobile solid-state drives (PSSDs) have emerged, there is a trend to challenge the status of U disks, after all, the speed of ordinary USB3.0 U disks is also 10 ~ 30MB / s, and PSSD can easily run on three or five hundred MB / s.
However, PSSD is small and not as portable as a USB stick, because it often needs to come with a USB-A or USB-C cable to work properly.
Another drawback of PSSD is "heat", friends who have bought SSD boxes know that if you accidentally buy a box with poor heat dissipation, then when SSD high-speed reading and writing, the box is often hot to the hot hand, once the temperature cannot be controlled, the transmission speed will drop sharply, the light one drops, the heavy one drops the disk.
Also, although the price of PSSD is gradually reduced, it is still expensive compared to U disks.
The above 3 shortcomings make PSSD always unable to beat the U disk.
However, no one can stop the technology from rolling forward. Recently, ORICO released a "flash U disk", which has both a small and portable body shape like a U disk, and a read and write speed comparable to a mobile solid-state drive, the key is that when copying a large file, the temperature control of this U disk is quite powerful, you can do high-speed reading and writing at the same time, low heat, stable speed, no drop.

First acquaintance with flash drive
12-word summary: fast reading and writing, low fever, no drop speed, large capacity. ORICO flash U disk UFSD-I interface cover, neat appearance, overall rugged, similar in volume to the U disk, but has the speed of an SSD, very similar to a "condensed" PSSD.
According to the interface, ORICO flash U disk is divided into conventional USB-A interface (the same as the conventional U disk) and Type-C interface, the latter's limit reading and writing speed is doubled than the former, and in addition to computers, mobile phones and tablets can be directly plugged in.
The one I started testing is the 512GB capacity version of the ORICO UFSD-I series. As a high-speed solid-state USB flash drive that does not drop, ORICO UFSD-I officially nominally has a reading speed of up to 405MB/s, which is close to half a G per second, corresponding to the standard of USB3.2 gen1.
Running score test
Without further ado, the actual measurements are proof. My desktop is the ASUS X570-e + AMD Ryzen™ 5900x platform, and the motherboard USB interface supports USB3.2 gen2 up to test that the USB3.2 gen1 gear is completely sufficient. The following figure is the result of testing with CrystalDiskMark 7, the continuous read speed of the 1GB and 4GB benchmarks is above 418MB/s, and the continuous write speed is also above 360MB/s, which exceeds the official standard parameters.
Actual copy data test
Running scores can only be used as a reference, and the actual copy of data is a strong proof. I took test screenshots using 9 video files totaling 63.2GB and 2 video files totaling 4.3GB.
It can be seen that whether it is reading or writing, the copy process of ORICO UFSD-I has maintained ultra-high stability, especially the 63.2GB large folder transfer, the read speed has been maintained at about 360MB per second, and the real "high speed without falling speed".
Stability and temperature control testing
A moment of speed, can not represent a long-term stability, ORICO flash U disk, really as he claimed, continue to copy without slowing down, do not drop the disk? The following stability + temperature control test is the test I am most concerned about, the first software used is ATTO Disk Benchmark 3.0 version, the benchmark range is 512B to 64MB, and the test time is directly selected for half an hour! Let's see if this USB flash drive can maintain long-lasting high-speed reading and writing.
The ATTO test process will continue to measure the above histogram, you can see that the maximum write speed reached 380MB/s, the write speed of 340MB/s, measured for 30 minutes, this read and write speed is still firm. During ATTO operation, the maximum temperature of the ORICO UFSD-I fuselage is measured once every 2 to 3 minutes using the temperature gun, and the test photos are shown below.
It can be seen that within half an hour of testing, the maximum temperature of this high-speed U disk is only 48 °C, the lowest time is 34.8 °C, and the current room temperature (the temperature at the chassis interface) is about 31 °C, and the temperature control test results are very satisfactory.
I also used the following software WTGBench on the desktop USB-C 3.2 gen2 interface to do a full disk write + temperature control test, you can see that orico UFSD-I rating reached "platinum level" (platinum > gold> silver > copper > iron plate), more than 500GB full disk write test also reached the expected stable high speed (maintained at 220MB/s), synchronous temperature measurement is also below 50 °C.
This means that orico flash U disks are more durable and will not drop even if the capacity is full. That's pretty tasty — if you want to make a WTG boot disk, it might be a particularly suitable option, like running a Windows 11 system with a USB stick, and the whole process will be fairly smooth.
Multi-platform compatibility testing
The interface of ORICO U3S-I is the same as that of a conventional U disk, which can be used like an ordinary U disk. If you choose the version of the USB-C port (ORICO UFSD-I series) like me, then its interface is Type-C, in addition to computers, notebooks, today's mobile phones, tablets can be plug and play, you can directly backup, transfer the data in the mobile phone / tablet, the scope of use is more extensive.
The above figure shows the orICO UFSD-I 512GB file benchmark test using notebook + ATTO 4.0, and the test results are basically the same as those of the desktop. The picture below is to connect it to the mobile phone (RedmiK30Pro zoom version) and the tablet (Xiaoxin Plus) for file read and write copy testing, which can be perfectly compatible.
In the past, backing up photos and videos in mobile phones and tablets often required WiFi in the cloud or connecting to the computer with a cable to slowly come; Now, I can directly use the flash U disk, anytime, anywhere can be synchronized, backup, no desktop, notebook can do fast and stable, daily productivity has improved a lot.
Summary of comprehensive actual measurements
Through the above comprehensive tests, it has been verified that the "fast and stable" of this ORICO flash U disk will not be "fuller and slower" like the traditional U disk, nor will it be like the solid U disk to read the cache (or the temperature is overheating) and significantly reduce the speed. In actual measurement, ORICO UFSD-I can last for half an hour at high speed reading and writing, 400MB/s up and down without falling speed, the temperature can be maintained below 50 ° C, really "calm high speed".
From the practical point of view, the volume of ORICO UFSD-I is on par with the U disk, no longer like PSSD must be used with cables, to achieve real high speed and compact. Moreover, it can not only be used directly for computers, mobile phones, tablets, but also can be connected to smart TVs to play Blu-ray movies, and connect NAS, dashcams and other equipment to quickly move data, and the use is also more extensive.
The actual feel of the flash U disk is heavier than the traditional U disk, after all, it is "the shape of the U disk, the soul of the PSSD". In terms of price, dozens of GB U disks are cheaper, but if you need a large-capacity U disk of more than 512GB, this flash U disk with a longer life than the traditional U disk is obviously more cost-effective - the more years it is used, the more cost-effective it is.
