author:Beijing News

After 72 years, the 95-year-old Chen Liang still often thinks of the brutal war that took place in a foreign country and the "coldest winter".

In the winter of 1950, chen Liang's 175th Regiment of the 59th Division of the 20th Army of the Chinese Volunteer Army entered Korea wearing winter clothes of the East China region, and in the severe cold of minus 40 degrees Celsius, the first battle of the 20th Army into korea was fought.

On the battlefield of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, chen Liang, 23, held four positions and was not only a hygienist who treated diseases and saved people, but also a greeter, cook, and instructor. He tried his best to keep the warriors cold, carrying their frostbitten limbs into his arms and feeding the wounded spoonful by spoon; He also organized health teams to send water and dry food to soldiers on the mountain on many occasions; In order to protect the 160 wounded in the Battle of Chosin Lake, he cut down more than 20 trees in one night, built a bunker, and successfully allowed the wounded to avoid enemy artillery fire. Because of these moves, he was called "the nanny of the wounded and sick."

After returning to China, Chen Liang, who only had a primary school education, entered the Military Medical University through hard work, and then worked in the Neurology Department of the former Nanjing General Hospital of the Nanjing Military Region for more than 30 years. In 1990, Chen Liang, who had retired, founded aimin hospital to serve the old district, and also organized a roving medical team to support the "old and young" townships and served as the team leader. Chen Liang said that he wanted to "live to be old and be old" and dedicate his life to the motherland.

"Picked up" soldiers

Before becoming a soldier, Chen Liang suffered a lot. My grandmother and father died of illness, and the whole family of seven or eight depended on their mother to farm and do handicrafts to support them. After graduating from elementary school, he helped his mother farm the land while selling chickens and ducks.

When the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression broke out, Chen Liang, who was still studying, often saw the slogan "China will win, Japan will lose.", and later, the New Fourth Army passed through Qidong, Jiangsu Province, and planted the seeds of joining the army in his heart: "The Japanese army that invaded China burned and plundered, and everyone hated them to death, so I was willing to join the army." In 1944, at the age of 17, Chen Liang joined a guerrilla company and went to Dongtai to train troops, and more than a month later, he was sent to Gaoyou's division headquarters to learn the knowledge of newspaper operators.

Chen Liang was very happy to learn technology, but after completing his studies, he was not assigned a job. More than 20 days later, one day a group of soldiers in military uniforms entered the house, pointed at Chen Liang and said to the platoon leader Chen Liansheng: "This soldier is not in charge, you take him with you!" "Would you like to join the main force?" In the face of Chen Liansheng's question, Chen Liang did not hesitate: "Yes! Since then, he has followed Chen Liansheng to the headquarters of the New Fourth Army in Huainan.

When they arrived at the military headquarters, all the people who went with them were assigned to work, and only Chen Liang was left. "There's a soldier who's been picked up and left unattended." Chen Liansheng reported to the people who divided the troops, so Chen Liang was arranged in the special task force health team, followed by cleaning, and distributing medicine and injections.

After the Surrender of the Japanese Army, Chen Liang went to Shandong again, working in the outpatient department of the Special Agent Regiment, and later as a sentry in the Special Service Regiment. In December 1946, the Battle of Subei began, which was his first time in the war, and he was very nervous.

He saw a fire burning in a nearby village, flares constantly flashing in the sky, and a silence around him, Chen Liang felt that he could "hear his own heartbeat." Chen Liansheng comforted him: "Don't be afraid, follow me." ”

At dawn, the troops that should have retreated had been surrounded on three sides, the way back and forth was blocked, and the enemy planes bombed back and forth overhead, at this time, Chen Liang was not afraid, "I only concentrated on rescuing the patients, and without bandages, I cut the wounded's pants into strips and bandaged them to stop the bleeding." ”

The battle lasted until dark, leaving the entire company of less than 20 men. Because of rescuing the wounded, Chen Liang made a third-class merit.

On the battlefield, danger is often fatal. An experience in May 1948 was the closest Chen Liang had ever been to his death.

At that time, Chen Liang's unit was circling with the enemy in the Huangpan area, and in the summer it was sweltering, the rain was strong, mosquitoes and flies were rampant, the troops had no mosquito nets, and the soldiers had no food to eat. One after another, some people fell ill, Chen Liang also had a high fever, coma, nonsense, no food or drink, people lost weight, but their stomachs were bigger, "I was almost finished at that time." Chen Liang felt.

The first four cases could not be saved, and the squad leader saw that Chen Liang was almost dead, and considered transferring him, but the officer Sun Kewen stopped: "This is the enemy-occupied area, or lay more grass for the ox cart and take him away." Fortunately, when they were stationed, they met the column hospital, heard about Chen Liang's situation, and gave him the medicine of "black fever", which survived.

"Nanny for the wounded and sick"

In November 1950, Chen Liang's unit crossed the Yalu River and participated in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea.

As soon as he crossed the river, Chen Liang was shocked--as soon as dawn, enemy planes began to strafe, stations and villages along the way were on fire, women were carrying packages, and old people were crying in search of their lost families.

What is more difficult to resist is the bitter cold. At that time, the temperature in the Chosin Lake area was at least minus 40 degrees Celsius, and the warriors wore only thin cotton coats, and as soon as they exhaled, their eyelashes and hair were covered with a layer of white frost. How to solve the problem of keeping warm has become the first problem faced by "health care officer" Chen Liang.

Chen Liang proposed that he use a cotton quilt to cover his ears with a quilt and cover his ears with a towel as an ear pack, and he could not sleep alone, but several people should hug each other. But the health team still kept receiving frostbitten soldiers, some people's feet and shoes were frozen together, a large piece of skin on the soles of their feet was torn off by taking off their shoes, some people were so cold that their wrists could not be lifted, and Chen Liang would put the soldiers' two hands on himself for warmth when bandaging.

Frostbitten warriors had difficulty eating with chopsticks, so Chen Liang borrowed a copper spoon from a North Korean old man and fed the wounded and sick spoonful by spoon. When the troops left, the old man gave Chen Liang the copper spoon that had saved many soldiers, and Chen Liang has kept it until now.

At that time, all resources were tight, "I was sheltered in a small group, often without medical staff, medicine, materials, and even dreaming of ways." Even looking back now, Chen Liang frowned tightly and looked embarrassed. He organized the medical staff among the wounded and unwrapped the quilts to make bandages, gauze, and cotton balls; Dig out the offal and skin that the enemy does not eat when he kills cattle and slaughters pigs in the snow, and boil it into oil for petroleum jelly and oil gauze.

In order to ensure the safety of the wounded, Chen Liang led everyone to build a bunker overnight, cut down more than 20 trees and set up 18 bunkers overnight, and the next day the wounded were able to hide in the bunker, successfully avoiding enemy artillery fire.

In the forward position, the soldiers could not wash and dry their clothes, many people had lice on them, chen Liang mobilized everyone to put away their clothes, carry them back from the position 20 miles away, wash them, soak them in potion, and kill the lice. Before returning his clothes to his position, he filled the pockets of each garment with express reports and letters of condolence for the prevention and killing of the enemy, and stuffed a handful of wormwood. The warriors were particularly encouraged to see it.

Chen Liang was rated as a second-class model worker during the Period of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, and in the "Commemorative Collection of Heroic Models of the 20th Army of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea", he was called "the nanny of the wounded and sick". This souvenir collection, along with the spoon given by the old Man of North Korea, was treasured by him, and the loose, yellowed pages were also carefully pasted by the old man with a circle of scotch tape.

Live to old age, work until old age

In 1952, Chen Liang left Korea to return to China, and after several twists and turns, finally entered the Shanghai Second Military Medical University, during which he married and had children, and after graduation, he was assigned to the neurology department of the former Nanjing Military Region General Hospital.

At that time, most of the patients came from the front line, life was tense and hard, the incidence of neurological and mental diseases was high, and the workload of doctors was also large. Chen Liang, a fledgling man, found that as long as the requirements were not met, some patients would be noisy and the ward management would be a mess.

"I made a suggestion, let the ward organize the district, the class, the group, and select the political work cadres among the patients as the district captains - most of them have good temperament and honesty, and let them manage themselves." In order to better treat the patient, he also thought about studying the electrical stimulation machine, so that the paralyzed patient got back on his feet.

Since then, the Department of Neurology has made progress, and Chen Liang has also participated in the academic activities of neurology in the whole army for many times during his medical career, and won the "Lifetime Achievement Award" of the Neurology Professional Committee of the Medical Science and Technology Committee of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.

In 1990, Chen Liang, who had retired, refused a high-paying external offer, founded aimin hospital in Nanjing to serve the old district, and also organized a roving medical team to support the "old and young" townships and served as the captain.

Chen Liang set down rules, requiring everyone to voluntarily participate without remuneration, live in private houses and do not live in hotels, do not eat, please do not receive gifts, etc. The medical team lived a very simple life, eating wild vegetables and salted radish heads, living in a mill or warehouse, temporarily using door panels to build five or six beds, no pillows, and sleeping with clothes wrapped in bricks.

In the past 14 years, this itinerant medical team has left its footprints in more than 40 counties (cities) in 8 provinces such as Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Gansu, Lu, Sichuan, Gansu and Henan, more than 70 county hospitals and township health centers, with a total of more than 100,000 patients, 33,937 special patients (B ultrasound, electrocardiogram, gastroscopy, etc.), 4,079 cases of diagnosis of doubts, correction of misdiagnoses, 332 rescue of critically ill patients, and more than 1,200 clinical teaching and class training personnel.

Now, the 95-year-old Chen Liang is still sharp-minded, but he needs the help of a wheelchair and crutches to walk, and his left eye can't see clearly because of an injury. But he still cares about everything in life and still serves as the director of the management committee of the dry rest house. His wife Wang Ruizhi knows that Chen Liang is a person who "lives to be old and becomes old", he said so and did this.
