Affected by persistent heat, icebergs in northern Greenland in the Arctic are melting at an unprecedented rate. It is estimated that nearly 6 billion tons of melted ice pour into the ocean every day, filling 7.2 million swimming pools that meet Olympic specifications. Experts estimate that if the high temperatures continue and the Greenland ice sheet melts, global sea levels will rise by 7.5 meters. Wait, up 7.5 meters? Is that little day still there?
Polar bear (scientific name: Ursus maritimus): Is an animal in the genus Ursus in the family Ursus, the world's largest land carnivore, also known as the white bear. The body is large and stout, with shoulder heights of up to 1.6 meters. Adult males weigh between 300-800 kg and can reach a head length of up to 2.5 meters. The females are smaller, weighing 150-300 kg and 1.8-2 m long. Similar to brown bears, except without shoulder humps. The head is relatively smaller than the heads of other bears, with small, rounded ears and a slender neck. The skin is black, and because the hair is transparent, it is usually white in appearance, but there are also yellow and other colors, and the body is huge and fierce. Each foot has five toes, the paws are not retractable, and the front paws are large and paddle-shaped, suitable for swimming and walking on thin ice.
Polar bears live in the ice-covered waters of the Arctic Circle. Winter caves can reach depths up to the permafrost layer. The preferred habitat is the ice floes of the Arctic Ocean. Ice edges and pressure ridges where fractures and re-freeze occur provide the best hunting grounds. Generally acting alone, with the exception of mating and lactation. About 66.6 percent of the year was inactive for most of the year, and the rest of the time 29.1 percent was spent walking and swimming, 1.2 percent stalking prey, or eating 2.3 percent. Polar bears are excellent swimmers and may be looking for food over a wide range. It is the most carnivorous species, with 98.5% of food being meat. The main prey is seals, and even larger species such as walruses and beluga whales. It also preys on seabirds, fish, small mammals, and sometimes cleans carrion. In the summer they occasionally eat some berries or the roots of plants. In late spring and summer, we also go to the seaside to pick up the seaweed to replenish the minerals and vitamins needed by the body.
The continued heat has had a serious impact on polar bear habitat. Polar bears are distributed throughout the arctic circle of ice-covered waters. In areas where sea ice in the Arctic Circle has completely melted each summer, polar bears are forced to spend months on land, where they feed mainly on stored fat until the surface of the sea freezes.
