Yesterday, the Wall Street Journal aired what must have been the ultimate story of a billionaire-level betrayal: Musk, the world's richest man, had a "brief" affair with the wife of his longtime friend and sometimes business ally Sergey Brin.
Brin, who co-founded Google, is the seventh richest man in the world.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the incident occurred last December and led to the rapid breakdown of Brin's marriage to the dark-haired beauty Nicole Shanahan, who is his second wife and mother of his young daughter. Brin, a popular, fun-loving tech mogul, filed for divorce in January on the grounds of irreconcilable disagreements.
The duo is widely regarded as the most charismatic person in the tech world and one of the most powerful on the planet. In the months since, Brin has steadily divested himself of all of his investments in musk's many businesses.
You can hardly blame him.
The Wall Street Journal reported at a party earlier this year that Musk got down on one knee in front of Brin and apologized for the incident as a plea for forgiveness. Brin reportedly acknowledged an apology — but still didn't speak regularly with Musk.
If true, this is certainly the largest personal betrayal in the history of the Billionaire Boys' Club. Famed tech genius Brin lent Musk $500,000, leaving his Tesla company from failing 14 years ago at the height of the 2008 financial crisis.
Musk has said he habitually "crashes" between Brin's homes, or just when he's in a bad mood.
Brin later married his first wife, Anne Wojcicki, who was one of those invited to celebrate Musk's 40th birthday on the Orient Express in 2010. Soon after, he became a guest at Musk's wedding to Talulah Riley.
They were very good friends, and as a wedding gift, he lent Musk the use of "Google Party Planes" to get his guests to events in Scotland.
However, there seems to be no honor among tech nerds — at least not with Musk. A bullied child, autistic and troubled, some of his recently raised ambitions include colonizing Mars, saving the world from climate change, helping Ukraine defeat Putin's intrusive forces, and allowing for a direct interface between the human brain and artificial intelligence.
While his business achievements are undeniable, he is 51 years old as a father of nine children and is almost as well known for his unconventional love life as his hefty fortune of $253 billion (£210 billion).
