General Wu Rongzheng: The legendary life of pulling a team at the age of 15, almost being buried alive by his comrades-in-arms and biting off the throat of the Japanese army

Wu Rongzheng is a native of Tongjiang County, Sichuan Province. At the age of 8, the eldest brother and the second brother were captured by the warlord Ding (the second brother fled back), the rice field on which the whole family depended for survival was occupied by the gentry, the father died of anger, the property was sold, the family of more than 10 people, the life was getting more and more difficult. At the age of 12, he went out to help people push boats and fish, earning some money to help the family make ends meet. Deep class exploitation and oppression, and labor life in the mountains and rivers, made him develop a strong character and the courage to overcome difficulties from a young age.

In 1932, under the influence of the surging revolutionary tide and the local CCP organization, he organized hundreds of Red Guards in his hometown to fight against the feudal exploiting forces. In December, the Red Fourth Front moved to the northern Sichuan region and established the Sichuan-Shaanxi Soviet District, that is, the Red Revolutionary Base Areas of Tong, Nan and Pakistan. The 16-year-old Wu Rongzheng led his Red Guards into the Red Fourth Front. He joined the Communist Youth League in 1933 and joined the Communist Party of China in February 1934.

During the Agrarian Revolutionary War: he was almost buried alive by his comrades-in-arms

He successively served as a platoon commander and company commander of the 10th Division of the 4th Army of the Red Fourth Front.

In the Red 5th Company, he was known for his bravery and good fighting.

In April 1933, he was ordered to lead the whole class to the edge of the rock mountain to defend the whole connection, encountering the enemy on the way. He took the lead in rushing up to fight with the enemy's white blade, and although he was wounded, he still did not go down the line of fire, commanded the whole squad to quickly unfold, seized the favorable terrain, resisted the attack of a company of the enemy, and persisted until the whole company arrived.

After recovering from his injuries, he was promoted to platoon leader. After that, he took part in the Battle of Goryudai. At that time, the enemy broke through with 500 death squads and fought a bloody battle with 5 companies. Wu Rong was stabbing two enemies in succession with a spear, and he himself was stabbed by the enemy, and the blood stained half of his pants red, and he still insisted on fighting until the main force of the battalion arrived to defeat the enemy.

In November of the same year, the enemy launched a "six-way siege" of the Sichuan-Shaanxi base area. The Wanyuan Tieguanya position encountered the onslaught of 4 enemy regiments, and the 28th Regiment counterattacked the Tieguanya position with two companies, but failed several times, and the regimental commander Wang Jinshan appointed Wu Rongzheng as the commander of the 5th company, asking him to take tieguanya that night. Wu Rongzheng led 5 companies to attack the Tieguanya, fought with the enemy to the point of bare hands, and took the Tieguanya.

Then, the 28th Regiment marched into the rear of the enemy in two days and two nights and launched an attack on the enemy of Feilong Village. The Feilong Village had an enemy battalion that was held by danger, and our side failed to attack several times. Wu Rongzheng avoided the enemy's defensive center of gravity, climbed up from the cliff crevice in the other direction, used grenades and ghost-headed knives to kill the enemy group, and with the coordination of the frontal attack of the 4 companies, completely annihilated the enemy and completed the encirclement of the enemy Zhang Luohan's division. The 5th Company was awarded the title of "Model Company" by the Red Fourth Front for its outstanding military achievements.

Wu Rongzheng was successively promoted to deputy battalion commander and acting battalion commander of the Red 9th Army. Participated in the famous Battle of Hyakujo. In the face of the enemy with superior troop strength and equipment, he fully demonstrated his bravery and tenacity, mobility and flexibility, daring to engage in hand-to-hand combat in close combat, and being good at giving play to the combat command style of our army in night raids. The soldiers who participated in the battle fought to the death and reached a state of selflessness, and both sides suffered heavy casualties. Wu Rong was seriously wounded later in the battle.

As the Red Army crossed the snowy mountains, Wu Rong, who was seriously wounded, was losing his vital signs in the extreme cold, just as fellow Red Army soldiers tearfully dug a pit and prepared to bury it. Director Fu Zhong's guards passed by, found his eyes slowly turning, and shouted, "He's still alive!" He's alive! And immediately reported to Director Fu Zhong. Director Fu Zhong ordered: "Dig him out quickly."

Through rescue, he finally struggled back from the death line.

In April 1936, Wu Rongzheng was ordered to the Red Army University before he recovered from his injuries, and while continuing to recuperate, he participated in his studies. After graduation, he was ordered to return to the Tenth Division of the Fourth Red Army. During the period of the rebellion, he described the Red Guards organized in his hometown as landlord armed forces and actually wanted to kill him, but fortunately he was spared the investigation and clarification of Fu Zhong, director of the Political Department of the Red Fourth Front.

During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression: Fighting with the Japanese to the death, biting off the throat of the Japanese army

The Red Army was reorganized into the Eighth Route Army, and Wu Rongzheng was transferred to the 769th Regiment of the 385th Brigade as a battalion commander, transferred to Taihang, and participated in more than 30 battles. In famous battles such as Xiangtangpu, Hundred Regiments Battle, Wolf's Tooth Mountain, Laoye Ridge, and Breaking Zhengtai Road, they all completed their missions excellently and were wounded several times.

In the Battle of Laoye Ridge, the fighting was particularly brutal. At that time, because the reinforcements failed to arrive, Wu Rongzheng's unit ran out of ammunition, he was also seriously wounded, and seeing that the enemy had rushed to the position, he endured great pain and led the team to engage in hand-to-hand combat with the Japanese Kou. In a one-on-one battle with the enemy, the burly man showed an absolute advantage, and he killed three Japanese with his bare hands.

Because of the pain, he engaged in a long and deadly struggle with the fourth Nikou, at this time his physical strength was completely exhausted, he used all his strength, threw the enemy to the ground, opened his mouth, and bit the throat tube of the Nichiko alive.

With their heroic and tenacious spirit, the troops he led won the battle. His 1st Battalion was reduced for 9 consecutive months and completed combat tasks well, for which he was awarded the Medal of Model.

From May to November 1942, Wu Rong was studying military affairs at the general school of the Anti-Japanese Military and Political University. From November 1943 to May 1945, he studied at the Central Party School.

Liberation War: Severely wounded and fighting until he was in shock

In April 1946, Wu Rongzheng was instructed by the Central Military Commission to lead the newly organized Fourth Brigade and hundreds of cadres of the Instruction Brigade into the northeast. Participate in the heavy task of opening up the base area in the northeast. In the northeast, he participated in dozens of battles, establishing merits for the liberation of the northeast.

In February 1947, during the famous Battle of Chengzi Street in the Battle of Sanxia Jiangnan, our army surrounded a reinforced regiment of the 30th Division of the New 1st Army, the ace main force of the Kuomintang, with a total of more than 4,000 people in the Chengzi Street area. From dawn until noon, some of the enemy remained undeterred. His superiors instructed the 51st Regiment to complete the annihilation battle, and he personally commanded the front line and launched a continuous attack, finally annihilating the enemy completely.

After the war, he was praised by the headquarters of the Democratic Coalition Army, saying that he was "determined to command, the troops fought well, and fought resolutely and tenaciously", calling on the whole army to study.

He was seriously wounded in this battle, his right arm and left leg were all broken, and he was in the freezing cold of minus 40 degrees, so that he could not wake up. Fortunately, Minister Sun of the General Health Department of Higashino personally cared for him, organized more than a dozen comrades to be rushed from the line of fire to the General Hospital of Harbin Garrison District, summoned a number of expert doctors, and carried out emergency and all-out rescue, which saved lives.

After recovering from treatment, he insisted on staying in the field unit and serving as the commander of the 53rd Regiment of the 18th Division. In the Battle of Western Liaoning, his regiment fought well again and was once again praised by the headquarters. When the Northeast Democratic Coalition Army was reorganized into the Fourth Field Army, he was transferred to the chief of staff of the 127th Division of the 43rd Army, and in 1949 he was promoted to the commander of the 143rd Division of the 48th Army.

From the northeast all the way to Gangnam. In the battle to advance into northern Guangdong, Wu Rongzheng led his troops to drag their wounded bodies, braved the 40-degree heat, marched 130 miles a day and night, surrounded the town of Longxian in Wengyuan County with a lightning speed that could not cover their ears, completely annihilated a regiment of the enemy, captured more than 1,700 people below the enemy's regimental commander, and quickly joined the Dongjiang guerrilla column to create conditions for our army to liberate Guangzhou.

After that, the 143rd Division was ordered to suppress bandits in Gannan Province. The mountains in the Gannan area are dangerous, and the bandit situation is serious, and there are tens of thousands of bandits. Because he thoroughly ascertained the bandit situation, made meticulous arrangements for encirclement, and combined the military offensive and suppression, political disintegration, and mobilization of the masses, the troops not only attacked and suppressed the encirclement, but also took up the task of the task force, mobilized the masses, built the party and the government, and achieved the goal of suppressing one piece and cleaning up one piece. As for the bandits who slipped through the net, he organized a squad to chase after them and arrest them one by one. As a result, in less than a year, the local bandits were eliminated, more than 500 bandits were captured, and more than 20,000 bandits were annihilated. He was praised by the Central and Southern Military Regions and the Guangdong and Jiangxi Military Regions.

The heroic 143rd Division

The 143rd Division was a brave, tenacious, and heroic unit. Dong Cunrui, one of the heroes of the country, is from the division. In August 1950, the First National Heroic Model Commendation Conference was held in Beijing, and the division's Dong Cunrui, Zhi Shunyi, Guo Junqing and Yang Shinan were awarded the first-class national heroic model and were commended by the Cuigang Red Flag Company. In one division, four national first-class heroic models were produced, and the whole army was the only division.

The prototypes of the three battle feature films in the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China, "Dong Cunrui", "Cuigang Red Flag" and "Youth in the Fire of War", all came from this division.

In November 1950, on the orders of the Central Military Commission, Wu Rongzheng led the 143rd Division from Guangdong to the north and arrived in Fuxin, Liaoning Province. Wu Rongzheng was the commander of the 2nd Artillery Training Base, responsible for modification and training. Later, it was reorganized into the 21st Rocket Artillery Division, and Wu Rongzheng served as the commander of the 21st Rocket Artillery Division.

Under the circumstance that the division's cadres and organs were not perfect, there were few cadres who understood artillery technology, the task of reorganization and training was tight, the technical manuals and training outlines were in foreign languages, and the translation strength was insufficient, through the joint efforts of cadres and soldiers at all levels, they seized all the time to train hard day and night, completed the group training and assessment within two months, and led the 21st Rocket Artillery Division into the Korean War in April 1951.

During the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea

In August 1951, the "United Nations Army" launched the Autumn Campaign, and the regiments of the 21st Rocket Artillery Division were assigned to each army. On September 1, 24 rockets of the 203rd Regiment fired 384 rockets first at the positions of the US 7th Division, achieving the record of annihilating more than 700 enemy troops and firing the first artillery of the 21st Rocket Artillery Division into the Dprk. Subsequently, the 203rd Regiment was assigned to the 67th Army, and the regiment and battalion fired twice in unison, annihilating more than 500 enemy troops and playing the prestige of "Katyusha". The U.S. army exclaimed, "Chinese put atomic cannons!" ”

During the Battle of Shangganling, the 209th Regiment of the 21st Rocket Artillery Division was transferred to the front line to support infantry operations. The regiment's 24 Katyushas fired twice, and it took only three minutes to resolve the battle, and the Americans retreated and temporarily stopped the attack.

In the Counterattack of Jincheng, the 21st Rocket Artillery Division once again participated in the battle, and the 201st, 205th, and 207th Regiments fired 69 salvos, destroying a large number of enemy forces and fortifications, and clearing the way for the infantry to attack. After the 21st Rocket Artillery Division finished fighting, the enemy position fell into a sea of fire, and the sky and the earth were burned red. This battle was the last battle of the 21st Division in the Korean Battlefield.

In just two and a half years, the 21st Rocket Artillery Division participated in more than 30 battles, participated in the annihilation of more than 100,000 enemy troops, destroyed 56 tanks, more than 230 cars, and shot down and injured 24 enemy aircraft, which was well received by infantry units.

Hong Xuezhi, deputy commander of the Volunteer Army at that time, described it in his book "Memories of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea": "In this battle, the 21st Artillery Division of the Katyusha Rocket Artillery Unit of our army participated in the battle. (May 13) At 9:00 p.m., the 21st Artillery Division fired on time, and the artillery fire formed countless fire nets, like a whining wind blowing towards the enemy position, half of the sky was red, several square kilometers of enemy positions were completely covered, and the enemy positions quickly burned. Then the 21st Artillery Division immediately moved, and the infantry rushed up. "The infantry welcomed the Katyusha artillery division very much, calling it the king of artillery."

In his many years of fighting, Wu Rongzheng was seriously wounded 11 times, but in peacetime, he still maintained the style of the war years. When he was in charge of the construction of the national defense industry in Guizhou Province, he disregarded the disabilities and illnesses, crossed the mountains and mountains, personally visited the scene to investigate, and selected points and arrangements.

He often went down to the grassroots level and found problems that were always solved in time. At that time, the life of the construction troops was extremely difficult, the labor was extremely heavy, and there were more and more patients with edema disease. He was so distraught that he raised support from many sources. At the same time, the troops were mobilized to produce self-help. He has specific requirements for the production and life of organs and companies, and constantly checks them. Whenever he found that there was no concern for the lives of the soldiers and did not pay attention to the producers, he always criticized them severely and urged them until they were corrected.

No matter what kind of work he does, he always works tirelessly and goes deep into the front line to experience and do it himself. It has contributed all its strength to promoting and completing the implementation of the major national defense strategy construction of the third line.

On October 7, 1973, Wu Rongzheng died of illness in Beijing at the age of 57. In the same year, it was approved by the General Political Department of the People's Liberation Army and the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People's Republic of China to award the title of revolutionary martyr.

Deputy Commander Wu Rongzheng left in this way. All the chiefs and comrades-in-arms who had been with him, and all the commanders and fighters of the units and units in which he had worked, all deplored his early death and sent people, telephone calls, and letters of condolence. The Party Committee of the 11th Artillery Division (formerly the 21st Rocket Artillery Division) said that he had "made an unforgettable contribution to the construction of the troops."

General Zhang Aiping once gave a poem "Folding Willow Branches" to praise Wu Rongzheng's character and mourn his early death:

The young man went on a journey and raised his sickle hammer.

He fought all his life and was willing to be a widow.

Pain Hua died early, and Dan's heart remained for a long time.

Daughters are full of heroes, and the succession continues to spring and autumn.
