Construction of the present Lund Cathedral began around 1103. At that time, King Eric I of Denmark appointed Lund as the archbishopric, the highest ranking bishop in northern Europe.

The tower of the cathedral is 55 meters high and the top is spire-shaped. The tower is the iconic symbol of Lund and is clearly visible over a wide range. The tower is currently closed to the public. The oldest bell in the church tower was built in 1513.
