#Art in Germany # If you come across a gorilla while shopping in Hamburg, don't panic. Since last week, 12 3.5-meter-tall bronze sculptures of giant apes by Chinese artist John Liu have transformed the heart of the northern German city of Hamburg into an open-air art gallery. The sculpture is designed to draw attention to the destruction of nature. The Hamburg city government has announced that they will be on display for two weeks on the famous shopping street Mönckebergstraße.

These gorillas set their sights on the sky, intended to warn people that the natural world is becoming more and more damaged due to the progress of civilization. "The ape-man's stunned eyes and innocent faces reveal a desire to correct all this and move toward a better future." John Liu said. This is the first time the sculptures have been displayed on such a bustling commercial street, where buses and taxis will take a detour during the open-air exhibition.
